I'm Dr. DB Palmer, a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the State of Utah, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington and a Licensed Professional Counselor and board approved Clinical Supervisor in the state of Alaska. I've spent nearly 20 years in the behavioral health field, across Washington, Alaska, and the western states. I have a background in corporate leadership within tribal and behavioral healthcare systems, as a university professor, and a former university counseling center director. In these roles, I've taught and supervised quite a few of Alaska and Washington’s clinicians. I am a husband and father, an avid river runner and marathon canoeist, and I'm a firm believer in each person's ability to find and create a meaningful life and co-existence with others and the world around us.
As I've been practicing for nearly 20 years, in numerous roles and settings, I've' learned to tailor my therapeutic style to keep the process moving forward. I enjoy both directive and process/insight-oriented modalities, meaning that I can be called upon as a coach and driver, if needed, and am also quite comfortable looking into the deep questions of existence and family of origin topics. I am trained in almost every psychological modality, but I really find a fit in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Existential Psychology, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused techniques.
For all of the psychological language above, all the years of education, and nearly two decades in practice... I suppose what I really want people to know is that they are the drivers in their lives. You are the main character in your life's story. This moment... every moment, is a chance to write the next page. It's my goal to inspire, to walk alongside and support your journey, to challenge you to create the life that you want... the life you thought you'd have in earlier days.
