About me
Hi, and welcome to Betterhelp! I am happy to be one of the therapists from which you can chose. Let me tell you a little bit about myself, so you can see if you think we might be a good fit.
I have over twenty years of counseling and coaching experience, working with individuals, families and groups. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York, and a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia. My degrees are from Marshall University and Liberty University.
My work experience has been with private organizations, military bases, and schools, and has included face-to-face therapy, as well as phone, email, chats, and online.
Some of the main areas I have dealt with include addictions; working with families in the areas of parenting, child behavior and educational issues; and health and wellness, especially in the area of health or other behavior change.
As to my approach, I think that it is very important to meet the client’s needs – to listen and help them sort through their concerns. Then, as each person is different, we can proceed in a collaborative way, identifying helpful components based on their own personal situation.
I can be very flexible - I like to be creative and help people explore reaching their goals in unique ways if they desire this. Other people like to be more concrete, and would prefer a more structured process. Of course, we can combine both approaches as well.
Finally, I would like to say that the most important factor in the counseling interaction is the relationship, and the client feeling that they are respected, valued, listened to, and understood in the best way the counselor is able.
I hope to be able to work with you, and to provide support to you as you contemplate and work towards what ever the goals or changes in your life might be.
