Welcome to BetterHelp! My name is Deborah Slevin and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan. I currently work in the public school setting where I serve a diverse community. In my work, I see issues of depression, anxiety, self-esteem, self-identity and attention commonly impacting academic achievement.
I developed a passion for mental wellness as a child watching my mother successfully manage a significant mood disorder throughout the course of her life. I am committed to both personal and professional growth and I view mental wellness as a lifelong journey. Most recently, I have earned the American School Counselor Association Anxiety and Stress Management Specialist and the Grief and Loss Specialist Certifications. Additionally, I have been incorporating the practice of mindfulness into both my personal life and my work.
My approach is client centered as I believe that developing a caring relationship is critical to successful therapy. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space for the client to engage in healing and growth. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy principles, strength-based approaches, solution focused techniques and mindfulness practices depending on the needs of my client. I work in collaboration with the client to develop therapeutic goals and design a plan for success.

when i started on betterhelp i tried several different therapists to find one that was a good fit for me. Deborah has proved to be a great choice for me. she is a great listener. she is supportive. but she still challenges me. she gives me useful tools to help me keep perspective and focus on good things. Deborah is awesome but i’m realizing if i recommend her too highly i’ll have more competition for appointment times
I really enjoy my sessions with Deborah. She listens and really helps guide me through my thoughts. She helps me to understand my experiences better which allows me to move forward in a progressive manner. I am super happy I took the risk to sign on to my first session. I love that I can chat with Deborah throughout the week if there’s something we didn’t quite wrap up with. Our sessions are typically something I look forward to every day, and I almost always end the session in a really positive mood, and others notice.
She understands me and is very warm and welcoming. She makes you feel like you are in a safe place.
Deborah is great at making me think and address my feelings and look at my thoughts and anxieties in a different way. She truly listens to my concerns and tailors our sessions to my specific needs. After sessions she reaches out for a check in or to share some materials to help me on my journey with mental health!
