Hello. My name is Debra Lawson. I am very happy to have this opportunity to work with you.
I have 27 years of experience providing counseling. I have a Masters Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Texas 23854). I was in private practice for 6 years during which I provided individual, family and marriage counseling to children, adolescents and adults. Prior to that, I worked in the public sector providing counseling to children and adults with mental illness. I also worked many years in the field of child abuse and neglect.
Issues I have worked on with previous clients include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, anger management, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse,
domestic violence, relationship problems, family conflict, grief, trauma and career challenges. Tools I use in counseling are based upon several different counseling theories including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Structural Family Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
My counseling style is warm and informal, while also motivating clients to identify and make the changes necessary to address and manage their life challenges. I work hard to make sure counseling services are specially individualized to meet the needs of each particular client. One of the things we can do is look at what strengths you already have and how we can build upon those to help you create a life which is worthwhile and one in which you can experience joy and happiness.
Each day presents new opportunities for living a more satisfying life. Let’s work together to help you create a life which is meaningful to you. I am looking forward to working with you!

Debra is a great supporter and listens to my concerns. I feel confident in sharing information with her and know that she is a nonjudgmental and positive professional. I greatly appreciate her help thus far and recommend her counsel.
The biggest thing that I look for in a counselor is that they let me figure things out on my own, rather than offering unsolicited and prescriptive advice. Even if this means I struggle and fumble a little bit with choosing and pursuing my goals. Debbie has been AMAZING and humble and kind throughout my time with her. She has never judged, never second-guessed. For the most part, she just holds space for me while I word-vomit, and then helps me to piece together the truth from that mess. I would recommend Debbie to anyone, especially in regards to childhood trauma, processing emotional pain, and setting / being held accountable to goals of personal development. 11/10.
Debra has been pretty great. I love that she offers several ways to do my sessions, and really listened to what I had to say while we made a plan. I feel like in the short time we’ve worked together I’ve been better able to understand ways I can change my thinking and focus on being better in the ways I’d like.
Debra is a very professional, warm, caring, experienced counselor. She is a great listener, is very empathetic, and has helped me through some challenging times and issues.
An amazing counselor and very helpful! Highly recommend!
Debra Lawson is such an understanding and kind counselor. She understands what my needs are and never judges me. She has helped me a lot.
Debra demonstrates a level of communication that only years of experience would have to offer. She is not afraid to ask you what you’re really trying to say, and offers real world methods to help you achieve your mental health goals. She is also very friendly, which is always a plus.
Debbie has been very responsive and helpful. I've only been working with her a couple of weeks and have already gained some perspective shifting tools.
I have been online counseling with Debra now for about 4 weeks and she has been extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She has a lot of knowledge on different types of therapy, such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and EMDR. She was able to identify certain issues I was dealing with after I explained my symptoms and suggested the appropriate style of therapy that we could work with. She gave me homework and followed up each week to see what type of progress I made. I would definitely continue counseling with her as she was very knowledgeable and has helped me with my depression and anxiety issues.
Debra is a very understanding and professional counselor. Debra will do what she can do to make sure you will receive the treatment that will help you.
Helpful and kind!
She is open and understanding with me.
First session was amazing & Im excited to work with her!
