Hello! My name is Dr. Deirdre R. Jackson and I am a licensed therapist with more than 30 years of counseling experience. I have a Ph.D. in Counseling/Counselor Education and Supervision, an M.A. in Counseling and a B.A. in Psychology. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with supervisory permissions in the state of North Carolina (LCMHCS), a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Tennessee (MHSP), Louisiana (LMHP) and Texas, an Approved Clinical Supervisor in the state of Minnesota and a Board Certified TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH). I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor, and hold a Certification in Crisis Prevention, Intervention and Teamwork Training.
I have engaged and counseled others for over 30 years with thought-provoking and life-changing therapeutic methods. I have been told that I impact the lives of those with whom I come into contact in such a way that they are always left desiring more of what life has to offer. After just one encounter with me, you are no longer able to settle for mediocrity; you are compelled to seek excellence in all that you do! For as long as I can remember, I have sought to best utilize my skills and experiences while serving as an instrument of far-reaching, truly impactful, long-lasting...dare I say 'permanent' change in the lives of others. I desire to be this in your life.
I have served in a variety of positions, including, but not limited to, Therapist/Counselor, multiple levels of Directorship (Executive, Clinical and Program), Clinical Supervisor and Assistant University Professor. I have served on various community and university committees, and have been intricately involved in the development of protocol, policies and procedures for multiple agencies. I have been charged with ensuring access to services, as well as compliance with local, state and federal guidelines. I have assisted in the preparation for and facilitation of successful accreditation visits. I am an excellent communicator, and I possess an uncanny ability to relate to and connect with persons from many different cultures, backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
As a therapist, I believe in an overall client-centered approach, which allows you to be the focus of the process, rather than feel that the process is being dictated and dominated by external factors which do not necessarily meet your therapeutic needs. I ascribe to a treatment model that incorporates the tenets of various theoretical orientations, which allows for an eclectic approach, tailor-made to fit your specific needs.
My role is to serve as teacher, advisor/mentor/consultant, and reflector/counselor (in the sense of the identification of unresolved issues clouding your life and impacting your ability to function in your day-to-day activities and relationships.)
My goal is to facilitate your overall clinical and personal growth and development! The objective is to assist you in identifying your own strengths and areas in which growth is needed, which enables you to be responsible for your life-long journey of continued growth and self-discovery.
I counsel individuals with a broad range of issues. In my practice of counseling, I believe that the counseling process involves a trusting relationship between the counselor and the client wherein information about clients are collected using interviews, observational techniques and other assessment methods. Client goals are collaboratively defined and realistic action plans are developed and implemented.
I welcome an opportunity to join you on your journey, and would count it a tremendous privilege to be given the honor to do so. Should you choose to work with someone else, I wish you all the best as you pursue all life has for you!
