About Me

Welcome to Therapy online! My name is Dori McDonnell. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Congratulations for reaching out for help; It can sometimes be a difficult thing to do!

I earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco and subsequently received my license from the BBSE to practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California in 2007.

Since then, I have worked with Families, Couples, Individuals, Teenagers and Children. My work has been intentionally focused on restoring and healing people’s lives that have been fractured and perhaps have lost their sense of well being and happiness.

I work with people suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Addictions. Those with Self Esteem Issues, Phase of Life Changes, Interpersonal Relationship Issues, Marriage Problems, Blended Family Issues, Grief And Loss and Communication Skills.

I incorporate a variety of therapeutic modalities to achieve my goal of, “how to best support my client”. Some of which are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Interpersonal Therapy; DBT or Mindfulness; Person Centered Therapy; Family Systems and EFT.

I am an interactive therapist, which means, that I listen
to you intently, but I will also be wanting you to interact with me. In other words, I won’t be just sitting and nodding, or have a one-way conversation, we will be talking back and forth.

Healthy communication is just as important between therapist and client as it is with other life connections, whether they be personal or business. The absence of healthy communication can pose a major threat to any relationship, which can leads to a myriad of other consequences and problems. Therefore, developing good communication skills will be a primary focus of our therapy.
