About me

My theoretical orientation is eclectic using a Humanistic approach in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I believe that no one should ever be judged for how they think or feel and should never feel as if they cannot or should not tell their counselor something. This unconditional positive regard for a person helps build the rapport need for solution focused interventions. I have worked in a variety of settings with all types of people. I started my carrier as a crisis counselor in a psychiatric receiving facility for children where I would complete assessments, consult with psychiatrists and assist the family in dealing with such a stressful event along with the child. I then went to work as an in home therapist for families that where in danger of being separated by DCF with the goal of not having the family separated by focusing on parenting skills and family conflict resolution. I also provided services for homeless families and individuals by assisting them through the circumstance of homeless and vocational guidance. I worked in a substance abuse treatment center for those that were mandated to treatment and I currently went back to working in an inpatient setting. Although I do not have extensive experience providing long term therapy, I have extensive experience in helping people through difficult times and I am grateful to be able to help people through Better Help.

I've been talking to Douglas for about a year now. He's a great person to help out things in perspective in a respectable way. Would recommend.

Douglas is a very down to earth, professional and approaches topics from a common sense point of view. He helped me put things into perspective and offered great suggestions.

In one session Douglas has helped me realize and find a way to break a pattern that I’ve been having for the last few weeks and probably lifelong. This is going to help me improve my relationships and my life will be more fulfilling. I’m glad I got to talk to Douglas, I can sense he is a great professional.

I am a 42 year old female, successful entrepreneur in a loving marriage and have a bright and healthy 4 year old boy. I shouldn't have anything to complain about. I am generally happy, motivated and have ample self confidence. So why in the world would I need therapy? Because I need help with constructive ideas to control my negative attitude. I'm generally not a negative person but I'm very self aware that I have vast mood swings of anger and pessimism and I get that from my dad. I chose Douglas because he counsels using cognitive behavioral therapy and anger management - which is the kind of therapy I need.
Douglas comes up with clear solutions and I appreciate that. I didn't want a therapist to tell me to talk about my day and how does that make me feel and that it's normal to have these feelings. I know it is normal to feel angry sometimes, but I wanted to understand how to recognize it and address it. So if you need constructive conversation with fast results for everyday annoyances and (especially effective child rearing advice!) I think Douglas is your therapist.

Mr. Gorman understands the issues clients’ have by finding the root causes of their emotions. Mr. Gorman reveals his humanity by divulging his own life-lessons to relate to his clients’ struggle, and thereby provides subconscious comfort to his clients that they are not the first to have their struggles nor are they alone.
