Hi, my name is Dustin Shivar. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in North Carolina and Colorado, with over 10 years of experience serving adults, children/adolescents, couples, and families in a variety of practice settings over my progressive career in human services. I attended East Carolina University, and possess a Master of Social Work degree from that institution earned in 2011. I have worked with patients struggling with an array of stressors including depression, anxiety, relationship impairments, family conflicts, bipolar disorder, OCD, and ADHD. Additional areas of expertise include: grief/loss, adjustment/transition, building motivation, communication, relaxation, and improving self-concept.
My counseling style is respectful, empathetic, interactive, engaging, direct, straight-forward, and practical while emphasizing the personal strengths, talents, wisdom, and self-awareness of the patient to succeed at using these strengths to resolve one's own personal difficulties. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, while not subscribing to established stereotypes. My therapeutic approach combines aspects of cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, solution-focused, and reality based treatment modalities. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
The unfortunate but very real reality is that we all struggle, it takes true courage and resiliency to seek a more fulfilling and happier life. To take the first steps towards addressing one's own personal conflicts requires a significant amount of bravery and fortitude. I want to personally commend you on taking such a step at this time. If you are truly ready to take such a step, then I look forward to meeting and talking with you, and please always know that I am here to support and empower you.
Thank you very much for taking time to review my profile. I look forward to talking with you soon. Have a great day.

Dustin is professional and safe. Talking with him helps bring clarity to to my daily experience and provides concrete areas to improve.
Dustin has been very supportive and in just a couple sessions helped me have some realizations. I would highly recommend him to others.
Dustin assisted me in a time of great need. He was a great listener and treated with "gentle hands". What stood out for me about Dustin was that he was an out-of-the-box thinker. He is not set in his ways and is open to all modes to manage one's health. I would recommend Dustin to anyone needing mental health support/guidance.
Dustin is equally as good at listening and understanding as he is at providing his own personal wisdom. While it is ultimately the client that gets to decide how to manage their own life, Dustin is excellent at helping weigh options and make the best decision.
Dustin is very diligent on checking in with me and responding to all my messages. When we meet, it is always a welcoming conversation where I feel totally at ease and completely safe to speak my innermost thoughts. I never felt he was pushing me in any direction, only further into understanding myself and what goals I truly desire and how to approach those goals. I am very grateful for Dustin's help in my life.
Thank you, I've really appreciated his insight.
I have tried therapy many times before and I have never found it particularly helpful. Dustin changed my mind on this. I’ve learned so much about myself and my relationships with others in the few months I’ve been working with Dustin. He’s responsive, honest, matter-of-fact, and manages to challenge me when needed — without being disparaging. I am consistently amazed at how well he listens and what he picks up from my own thoughts and commentary. We’ve discussed just about everything under the sun and he’s taken it all in stride.
Supportive and comes up with practical solutions quickly. Highly recommended!
I had the opportunity to speak with Dustin via phone about some issues I was trying to resolve with my parents. Even though we only spoke a few times Dustin really helped me get my emotions and thoughts aligned and it was very helpful to talk to him. I felt no judgment or criticism from Dustin, I could tell he really does love helping people and that he cares for his patients. I would highly recommend talking to Dustin if you also are dealing with somethings that you need to discuss.
Dustin has been incredibly helpful in getting me back into a productive state of mind. We've very quickly traversed the crisis management phase, and are working now in the sustainable rebuilding phase. He's been insightful in his questions, and caring in our discussions.
After working for several months with Dustin on issues ranging from family conflict to anxiety, I have a new set of tools that drastically improved my life. My anxiety levels are significantly reduced thanks to his help, and he provided me with methods to cope with stressful situations in the future.
Dustin has a unique ability to capture themes from the past and how they effect your current situation, and provide you with 'evidence' of your BEST self and identify what you want/need from things you had already said. It is a great reflection that helps tremendously during times of chaos and struggle.
Dustin is a very positive provider! His guidance comes through active listening, appropriate and contemplative prompting, and validation. He's also very responsive and this is meaningful because timely responses help me transact wisdom in the problem areas of my life in real time. The platform facilitates this and I can't recommend Dustin enough!
Dustin really takes my concerns about myself and life situations to a person level. He offers more advice each day I get ahold of him. I feel like most of the time when I message him, I'm deeply concerned about myself and what's going on around me, and he pulls me back to reality with tips on how to control how I feel.
