About me

Hello,
First, I want to make sure you’re safe. If you’re thinking about suicide, or hurting someone else, online counseling is not the appropriate place to get help. Stop reading this right now and please call 911, or 1-800-273-TALK (8255) to talk to someone immediately.

Secondly, I congratulate you on taking this brave step toward a more enjoyable life. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to help you.

I believe that therapy starts with a solid bond between therapist and client. Sharing our most personal thoughts and feelings can be scary. It is my goal to help you feel comfortable doing just that. I enjoy working with people of all faiths (or no faith) and political leanings. I like to use a generous dose of humor in my practice, but please know that I am taking you seriously. Your feelings are valid, and sometimes just being able to communicate those feelings can be therapeutic itself.

It's also important for you to know that any communication between us is confidential with a few exceptions. I must report any suspicion of child or elder abuse. If you're having serious thoughts of harming yourself or others, I will also alert the appropriate entities. Your safety is of utmost importance to me.

I obtained my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Cal State- Northridge in 2008, and have been a licensed MFT since 2012, although, most of my experience has been with individuals who have significant anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, PTSD, addiction, and psychoses.

I use many different theoretical perspectives, but I lean towards a Cognitive/Behavioral approach. If we can adjust our thought patterns, we can change how we feel and how we act. Conversely, if we change our behavior (e.g. exercise regularly) we can change how we feel, and experience more positive thoughts as a result. These three aspects of our lives are inextricably related.

In addition to Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy, I have been trained in many different modalities, including:
• Seeking Safety (for PTSD and/or Addiction)
• Interpersonal Therapy
• Matrix Model (for addiction)
• Crisis Oriented Recovery System
• ASIST (Suicide Prevention)
• Competencies in Clinical
•. Supervision (for supervision of other therapists

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to working with you.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Ed Keaveny. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Ed listened to my situation and things in life was dealing with. I had a hard year, circumstances and breakup that was heart breaking and life shattering. I do have a strong faith of the Lord in my life and high self worth, but I needed someone with a chance to listen, wisdom, balance and patience. He had those things thank you, I appreciate it all.
