Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Florida with over 30 years of experience as a dedicated mental health professional.
I received an M.Ed in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and an MSW in Clinical Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work. I have worked in multiple clinical settings including inpatient psychiatry, addiction treatment units, school counseling programs, and outpatient mental health clinics. My experience is primarily with adults who are dealing with mood disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder), substance use disorders, anger/stress management, grief/loss. and relationship issues. Most recently I was a member of the Suicide Prevention team at the Bay Pines Veterans Administration Health Care System for eight years and developed the skills and resources to offer assistance to Veterans and their families. I am currently engaged in a private practice in St Petersburg, FL.
My treatment approach is collaborative, solution-focused, strength-based, and recovery-oriented. I specialize in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. My personal counseling style is warm, compassionate, supportive and interactive. Making the effort to overcome personal problems can be anxiety provoking but also deeply satisfying and rewarding. I feel honored when clients are willing to openly discuss their fears, hopes, and concerns with me. My hope is that our work together will be a collaborative effort and that I will be an ally for you in dealing with your issues and life challenges. I value and appreciate the opportunity to join you on your journey of personal growth and positive change.
I am here to offer guidance and support and look forward to working with you!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Eileen O'Connell. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Eileen is the best therapist I’ve ever had.
Eileen is an exceptional therapist and makes me feel extremely comfortable during our sessions. She creates a safe space with no judgement and offers tons of support at all times. Thank you so much Eileen for helping me overcome all my challenges.
Great at her job. Caring and a great listener
She has been an excellent listener and very patient with me as I have come to the sessions with many challenges to tackle. I appreciate her approach as it is enabling me to sort through my issues.
I've had 2 sessions with her so far and while I think that might be early, for my liking, to post a review; I really have liked my experience so far between having her as a therapist and my experience with betterhelp.
Eileen is one the most compassionate people I have ever met. Not only is she a wonderful counselor, she is an awesome mentor. I look up to her and how she is able to assist with various problems and still manage to stay unbiased.
This service has saved my life. Four weeks ago I was so depressed I couldn't shower, couldn't eat, only slept. Still recovering from an injury in March I have been distraught at times, completely inconsolable. One morning I saw a promotion being run through Arianna Grande on Instagram. She was donating $100,000 in therapy, I believe, which individuals could sign up for in the form of one free month of sessions with Betterhelp. I cannot thank her enough and how vital this was. Without that promotion I couldn't afford this service. I don't know where I would have beeb mentally without it.
Eileen O'Connell stepped right into the role as my counselor and it felt like I had known her my whole life. I am comfortable talking to her and have been from the begining about my most personal situations. She is compassionate and understanding. Eileen engages my mind to work through any issues I may have had arise durring the week as well as helping me work through situations from my past. As a patient is was important that my therapist have an open availability with several options for communication. Not only did Eileen meet the requirements I had set, she went above and beyond my expectations. She responded to my journal entries appropriately throughout the weeks. I regularly recieved educational worksheets from Eileen to read and/or to fill out in order to help me comprehend more adequately my feelings, or for example an issue that may have arose. The most important part, I feel better about me. I feel equipped to better control my anxiety, and am able to cognitively make better decisions in the moment by being mindful. I am so grateful for the counselor/patient relationship I formed in such a short time, I know it has been beneficial for me. I would without a doubt recommend this service to others in the future.
Eileen meets you where you are. She leverages your internal motivation and strengths as tools to help you. She is extremely caring and very easy to talk to.
I absolutely love and appreciate Ms.Eileen O'Connell. She is empathic and understanding with your challenges and looks forward to helping you navigate through life's tough paths. She is so sweet, and really prioritizes her patients. I've been with her a little over a month, we meet twice a week and she is always willing to work with you and your schedule. I recommend her if you are looking for someone who is welcoming and who has an open heart. She is a really great therapist and a wonderful person as well.
I was overwhelmed and in a dark, sad place when I signed up with betterhelp earlier this year. Eileen was assigned to me and I couldn't have asked for a better counselor. Eileen is insightful, completely objective and I looked forward to our sessions every week. With her help, I'm so happy and relieved to say that I have made leaps and bounds in a matter of weeks. I would highly recommend betterhelp and Eileen to friends and loved ones.
Eileen is caring, professional, and committed to her clients and their growth. She is a thoughtful and compassionate therapist. I admire her abilities.
Eileen is extremely patient and understanding. After my many sessions with her I was able to identify and actively work on my issues. I would highly recommend her!
She is very nice and is accommodating to your schedule. Any issue you have she responds quickly with help and insight along with reading material that is very beneficial. I would recommend her to anyone.
