About me
I am licensed (Texas LCSW) having 4+ years of professional clinical work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress, anxiety, and depression. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and interventions to meet your unique and specific needs. Making the first step to participate in therapy can require courage, and I welcome you and congratulate you for getting started!
You may be interested to know a little bit more about me. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an undergraduate, earning a B.A. in English literature and Latin American Studies. Later, I earned my Master of Social Work degree from New York University, in 2013. I have trained in solutions-focused psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), among other theories. DBT and ACT are evidence-based "new wave" CBT therapies that involve the application of mindfulness. I meet clients where they are to help my clients identify and move toward meeting their own goals.
BetterHelp allows therapists to organize some of their own practices and procedures according to their training and licensure. So, you may like to know upfront that I will prefer to have our first meeting via Video, both so that we can better meet each other and also so that you can show me a copy of your ID (like a driver's license), as a standard professional operating procedure and for better safety planning. After the first session, I allow my clients to choose Video, Phone, or Chat, whichever is their preference. I also have a formal, professional consent to receive services form that I request before the first session and require before the second session. Not all BetterHelp therapists work the same way, so if this is not to your liking given any reason, you are encouraged to let me know and/or you always have the option to switch therapists, although hopefully we can work through it together to get to the good and meaningful therapeutic work that follows.
