My name is Elizabeth ( Liz) Waissman, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California for 19 years. I earned my Masters Degree at University of Southern California with a strong background in Mental Health. and Older Adults. I have worked in many different settings over my time as a Clinician, both with individuals and families, and most recently worked the last 9 years as an EAP Advisor ( Employee Workplace Consultant). I have worked in various settings, such as Adult Day Health Care, Psychiatric In Patient, and with Individuals who have experienced a variety of personal issues such as depression/anxiety, stress, grief and loss, workplace issues, coping with change, relationship issues and aging issues.
My approach to therapy is a client centered approach, in other words, we will start where you are, right now. My experience of 20 years has taught me that we all go through challenges, and in those challenges there lies opportunities. By increasing our self- awareness level, and comfort level on who we are, we can take small next steps in order to adapt and change, depending on what life is placing in front of us. Sometimes, it may be just to grow in understanding and learn acceptance.
My style is compassionate and working with clients to help facilitate forgiveness, in all areas of life. I believe it is very important to express an, unconditional positive regard toward all people and above all, a non judgmental, open-minded therapeutic perspective.

Liz is one of the most incredible people I have ever met. She’s done wonders for me at such a terrifying and vulnerable state in my life. We became a perfect match in July of 2020 and I strongly believe that she is the reason why I’ve overcome so much of my battles and am the person I am today. I deal with anxiety, depression, LGBTQ struggles, and speaking with her weekly in such a safe space reminded me of who I truly am without anyone else in mind. Her positivity, self awareness, and light radiates within her and is a contagious attribute that I’m so grateful to have experienced. I cannot understate how important Liz is in significantly improving my mental health over the last 5+ months. As I am writing this review close to Thanksgiving 2020, I am thankful to report that I have been out of my depressive episode for a good 3 months now, am now dating a wonderful guy, and repaired some of my relationship with my family. I also now better understand my values, what I want out of my relationships, and what I want out of life. This sounds almost too cliche, but I also genuinely feel more content with myself, significantly less anxious/worried about the future, and feel that I have built up a healthy amount of resilience and inner joy to help me through the next few months of uncertainty. Liz is 100% crucial for helping me get to this point.
A little bit about me, I have been going consistently to a therapist outside of Better Help for 3+ years, but when COVID hit, I experienced my most severe decline of my mental health in my life. I became extremely depressed, had uncontrolled anxiety, and felt that I couldn’t meet any of my personal goals or work expectations. I was also not in a good relationship with my family, was intensely unhappy with my COVID weight gain, and felt so lonely, isolated, and completely unlovable as a person.
Out of a place of desperation, I reached out to Liz on Better Help to incorporate her sessions into my overall wellness plan, which eventually included seeing my other long-term therapist, taking prescribed medication, improving my diet, and doing regular exercise. My goal was to get out of my depression, figure out how to self-soothe my anxieties, and ultimately, find love for both myself and for others.
Even though I surrounded myself with as much support as I could, Liz became my go-to person who helped me work on action plans and unpack specific triggers to help me out of my depression. Initially, I could barely think about eating or sleeping or even going outside for a walk. Yet with weekly sessions over a 1-month period, I finally started to make the gradual climb upward and outward.
Overall, I value Liz so much for her empathy and for her experience working with people like me. I appreciated how quickly she understood where I was coming from and how quickly she was able to provide what I really needed at the moment. At times, she recommended various in-app worksheets that actually helped me a lot to better articulate the concerns that were on my mind. I even used the journal feature on occasion to jot down thoughts so we could go over that content together.
In general, Liz is just such a kind and caring therapist and I am so eternally grateful that she and I were paired together on the app. She truly became an integral partner in helping me repair my mental health and I would not be in such a great place right now if it wasn’t for her. Know that as of November, I am still working with Liz but this time in my life changes as I navigate new love, plan for my future, and revisit my personal goals and relationships. I am looking forward to more to come!
