About me

My name is Ellen Koski-Ponton and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) of 30 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Theo-centric Psychology. In my private practice, I am blessed to work with provisionally licensed marriage and family therapists and professional counselors seeking licensure in the State of North Carolina. As an approved supervisor for the state, I not only provide services to individuals, couples and families myself, I also have the opportunity to share in the experience of training these individuals as they provide help and support to their own clientele. I also teach human service courses at Central Piedmont Community College for those who want to become part of helping others as well. I am also blessed to have the opportunity to provide psycho-educational and therapeutic services to offenders involved in the North Carolina prison system as I am the Administrator and therapist for the only therapeutic domestic violence program in the state. I own the motto “No More Victims.” My background includes extensive work with trauma, sexual, emotional, and physical abuse involving both victims and perpetrators, sexual addiction, pornography, men’s issues, anxiety, depression, stress, marital(couples) and other relationship issues, as well as issues involving the court system. Thus, I am well-rounded in the successful treatment of persons of all ages, ethnicities, and life issues and stresses.

As an LMFT, I use various modalities of treatment. After talking with you and learning about your strengths and the struggle you are currently facing, I determine which type of treatment I believe will bring you the best and quickest resolution –cognitive behavioral, brief systems, strategic, solution focused, mindfulness, etc. or a combination of them

Although I am direct in my work with you, I am also very empathetic to you and your issue. I believe a person must be accountable, responsible and honest in order to be a person of integrity. I believe that each person is a unique individual with strengths and experience to overcome difficulties. I believe my responsibility as your therapist is to empower you to use the skills you already possess to strengthen you and help you recognize what you can and need to do to weather this storm. For some this will include using your faith or theology as well. I ask questions and listen to hear what you are or are not saying to help me better understand and accept who you are and what you believe to guide you in resolving your difficulty. I am excited that my previous clients refer so many other clients to me and I hope you will have the same experience in our walk together to you becoming the best you can be.

My hours vary. I have daytime and a few evening hours for therapy. If you do not see a good time for you in my schedule, please contact me as instructed and I will attempt to find a more suitable time for you.

I very much look forward to our journey together.

Listens and helps develop a plan! Has always been honest and upfront. We wanted someone who was bold and said it like it was. Dr P definitely fits that request.
