About me

Life always throws us curveballs. You can do everything to set yourself up to thrive, but life happens. The key to making it through life’s obstacles isn’t by fighting or avoiding them. It’s about learning to build resilience. By resilient, I mean having the right coping tools/skills to help yourself on the days you are struggling.

I have a Master’s in Counseling with over 15 years’ experience working with adolescents, young adults, and women experiencing depression, anxiety, childhood emotional abuse, substance abuse, grief, loss and family dynamic issues. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois and a Licensed Mental Counselor (LMC) in Florida.

My experience is varied and across many different settings. I have provided individual, group, and family therapy, in residential treatment programs, outpatient hospital programs, and private practice settings. This has provided the opportunity to work with a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences.

Like everyone else, I have struggled in trying to be happy. It has taken me a long time to learn how to make my own happiness, and figure out “my life.” The process was difficult, and I faced many “highs and lows.” But, these experiences have made me the person I am today which is an extremely empathic, compassionate and honest person.

My approach is based on your life issues and the support you’re seeking from therapy. I use cognitive behavioral theory as well as strength-based and solution-focused approaches. I will adapt each session and interaction to meet your unique and specific needs by using approaches that bring results.

I can help you maneuver through the obstacles you are facing and would like to support you through your journey.

Ellen is amazing! She is attentive and so incredibly patient and kind. She listens to me and somehow manages to get to the root of what I'm trying to say even though I can be a bit chaotic. I am grateful for her expertise and insight!

I can't say enough great things about Ellen. She is patient, compassionate, encouraging, and intelligent. I like how open she is to different approaches and how she does not rush through our sessions. She truly makes me feel like she cares to go on this ride with me until I improve and is invested in my well being.

I had a number of preconceptions about therapy that had previously meant I was reluctant to invest in it. My fiance and I recently started working with Ellen, and it's made me realize how wrong I was. Ellen is empathetic, humorous and kind, but she also is direct and willing to offer the practical advice that I worried would be lacking in this environment. Both of us have found Ellen extremely helpful, and I find our sessions enjoyable - something I never thought I'd say. Ellen has won a therapy sceptic round very quickly :).

Ellen is very knowledgeable, honest, and humorous. I’ve been struggling with new life events and Ellen gave me a lot of coping mechanisms and recommendations. Always was a great session and I felt like it helped me process so much.

Ellen Scherr provided me with exceptional care and treatment. She has such a deep professional knowledge and expertise to share, but also provides you with such warmth and comfort because she is a wonderful human being. I would happily recommend her to friends in need of counseling as well as return to her care any time I might need it. Thank you Ellen and thank you Better Help for providing such exceptional and convenient care.

Ellen is absolutely incredible to work with! In just a few sessions together, I made more progress than I could’ve imagined. She is warm and caring, and always has a way of posing questions without any judgment or condescension. I’ve learned so much about myself, and she’s equipped me to continue working through my trauma to heal and be a better person. I am so thankful I found Ellen, as she’s an invaluable resource to my mental health and emotional wellness.
