Hello! My name is Ellen, I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor [LPCC] in the state of Ohio. I began my career in the mental health field as a case manager, where I worked in the community assisting clients with obtaining their basic needs and providing emotional support. Upon graduating from the University of Dayton, with both my Masters in Science Education [MSE.d] and my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor [LPC], I worked as a diagnostician and clinician at a large community agency, where I worked with individuals presenting with a wide range of mental health diagnoses [i.e. Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD], Schizophrenia, Bipolar I &II etc.] all of which had varying levels of severity. I transitioned to an inpatient hospital therapist role, where I worked on a Chemical Dependency unit, facilitating psychotherapy groups, completing treatment plans and setting up aftercare for those who completed detox protocol.
For years the concept of mental health has been stigmatized leaving many feeling hopeless, alone and stuck; stuck in unmet expectations, addiction, loss, trauma or even a diagnoses, but these do not define you, they are not who you are, you are so much more. I believe each and every individual I work with has a purpose and makes an impact. As a counselor, my goal is to help break through stigma by creating a safe, nonjudgmental, warm and compassionate environment; to provide a space where you can reflect on your relationships, thoughts, feelings, fears, loss, grief and pain.
I hold an integrative therapeutic style, where I pull from various therapeutic techniques to best meet the needs of those I work with. I strongly believe in allowing the client to guide the session as I listen carefully and thoughtfully connecting the dots and reflecting back. As a counselor, there is nothing more rewarding than witnessing an individual discover their own worth and self-love.
I hope to connect and be a helpful guide on your journey of self-discovery, healing and peace.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Ellen Spoelker. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Miss. Spoelker was my first therapist. To say I had to deal with and process a lot of my problems is an understatement. I was suffering from anxiety and other issues. She introduced me to the counseling process; was unwaveringly professional, and was very understanding and non judgmental. I am a better person today than I was before my time with Miss. Spoelker. I whole heartedly recommend her as a therapist, and hope she can bring as much positive change in your life and she did for me.
Ellen has been so helpful in just the few sessions we had together. She is so easy to talk to and has really helped me navigate my emotions in such an invaluable way already!
Ellen was incredible with helping me navigate my challenges. Every meeting was so impactful! I underestimated how effective just a couple video sessions would be! I highly recommend!
Ellen helped me understand my anxiety as well as help me address some trauma that was rooted in my anxiety. I’m starting to feel like a whole new person and her warm non-judge mental attitude it comforting and reassuring :)
So happy my other therapist cancelled on me last minutes because Ellen is wonderful! She is a great listener, asks the right questions, and helps me understand what I’m going through.
Ellen has been very supportive, relatable, a great listener with consistent follow-up.
Great listener and helping me understand myself better
Ellen is very kind, listens, and always offers great advice. She is so wonderful.
I've only had one visit with Ellen but she made me feel so comfortable talking and opening up.
Very understanding and Just listens very well and give great advice
Ellen is just what I needed coming into therapy. She really shows that she cares and truly wants what's best for you. I love that she helps you to grow in yourself and realize things for yourself. So appreciative of how she has helped me!
Ellen is a compassionate, thoughtful, and devoted therapist who responds promptly, takes time to understand, and helps me feel heard and valued. I have not been with her long, but I've had a couple therapists before, and can already say that none have come close.
Ellen has been so helpful in the short period of time that we’ve known each other. She’s so easy to talk to and open up to and she challenges me to think about the things that I’m saying and experiencing rather than just pushing thoughts or feelings down. She doesn’t just listen, she also prompts me to think about things differently and on a deeper level and put them into words which I normally wouldn’t. She is accepting of my hectic schedule and always makes time for me.
Ellen is very kind, understanding and helpful. She’s a really good listener who comes with keen observations worth exploring.
