About me

Hello! I am Emily, a Licensed Clinical Social work with 4 years of experience providing therapy to adults and families. It can be challenging to find a provider you connect with online, so I will share honestly about myself and my clinical approach to give you an idea of what it would be like to work together. People I serve describe my clinical style as warm, informal, and person-centered. I am (literally!) a professional listener, and develop strong relationships with people, give honest and kind feedback, and empower you to make informed decisions about the treatment process. As we begin to work together I will ask questions to get to know you, discuss what you would like your life to look like, assist in setting meaningful goals for therapy, and individualize each session to fit your needs.

I earned a bachelors degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2013 and attained my masters at the University of Denver in 2016. I chose Social Work as my field of study for both degrees because I value people over labels, love learning about systems and policies, and believe the intersections of identity shape our experience of the world. My passion is to provide mental health treatment that is equitable, honors individual experiences, and is anti-oppressive.

I have been trained in many modalities of therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, humanistic approaches, and motivational interviewing. Examples of sessions together could look like practicing mindfulness to manage symptoms of anxiety, processing difficult feelings and exploring triggering events, learning skills to set healthy boundaries and have close relationships, or creating an action plan to help you get better sleep. I may be a therapist, but I believe you know yourself and what you need best and will walk with you to wellness.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Emily DeFrancia. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Emily is a true gem. She is genuine, personal, professional, and friendly. She will take the time needed to build trust in your therapeutic relationship, which may mean waiting to discuss the heavier things until that trust is built. This allows for a true foundation of safety and security to be built upon. Emily can explain herself amazingly well, both over messaging and video chats. You will feel genuinely accepted, cared for, and seen as a client of Emily's. I am excited to continue working with her as we move forward.
