Welcome and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and how we can work together to make the changes you are looking for.
I believe therapy is collaborative. When you make the decision to engage in treatment, you are the expert on what you are experiencing. Your voice and opinion is important to the treatment process and we will work together to develop a plan that will lead to desired change, but is manageable. In your initial session(s) you have the opportunity to explain what you are experiencing and what brought you to treatment. With guided questions, you will learn more about what you are experiencing, and a plan can be made. I truly value your input throughout the treatment process.
I have been a licensed clinical psychologist for 12 years. For the first 12 years of my career I was a psychologist in the U.S. Air Force. I have experience working with military members and their families with issues specific to the military lifestyle. I have worked with a variety of people and a variety of mental health symptoms/conditions. Early identification of your symptoms is key to preventing the development of more serious conditions. I have extensive experience working with people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress management difficulties, anger difficulties, trauma, and sleep problems. Relationship and job problems are often at the root of the mental health symptoms and can be addressed in the treatment process.
My approach to therapy is dependent on the concerns the person is reporting and what style works best for them. However, I have been trained extensively in cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT. CBT looks at how what you think impacts how you feel and behave. Sometimes we are stuck in situations that we cannot change, but we can change how we think of the situation. Sometimes just changing how you think can have a huge impact on your mood. This is not the same as positive-thinking, but that is something we can discuss more in treatment. I am also trained in various treatment modalities for treating trauma.
I attended Southern Methodist University where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After assisting various staff in the field of psychology at SMU, I realized the importance of assisting those in need using evidenced-based treatments for mental health conditions and other of life’s struggles. I obtained my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR,
My goal is to teach you, the patient, how to target those areas in your life that are holding you back from being the best you. I look forward to working together with you!

Dr. Mayfield has been terrific, though we are early in the sessions I am really enjoying them and feel like she is asking the right questions. She is both professional, friendly and highly competent. I definitely recommend her!
The match was really good. She hears through what I talk about and lands directly on issues to work on. When she directs me to information to read or work on it is very helpful to increasing my awareness of what I need help with and a plan to work on it.
Dr. Mayfield is very supportive and responsive. I feel very comfortable with Dr. Mayfield and never feel judged. She has helped me with quite a few breakthroughs in our short time working together. I have noticed a lot of improvement and growth within myself since I started working with her and have had a very positive experience so far.
Dr. Mayfield has been very helpful in pinpointing a problem I’m dealing with and is giving me some tools to deal with it. Thanks!
Dr. Mayfield has been extremely helpful to me - her insights are valuable, and she addresses issues on the level that I introduce them, rather than spending a lot of time explaining more basic issues that I've already worked through. I appreciate very much her ability to jump in with nutshell versions of my stories and truly help me think things through.
I wish I'd had her years ago! but I'm thankful to have found her now.
I enjoy the email exchange I have with Dr. Mayfield. Her questions are helping me learn to understand why I do what I do. Now we are working on ways to change behaviors, by changing my thoughts. This is meaningful work.
Despite being busy in my real life lately, Dr. Mayfield still checks up on me and I appreciate that so much. It's wonderful to know that there is someone out there that truly wants to know that I'm alright or if something is wrong. It's comforting, especially when things are stressful. I know I can turn to her for help.
Dr. Mayfield has been very consistent in responding to me when I message her. She offers helpful and clear guidance and I trust that she has my best interest in mind. I have felt comfortable in communicating with her and am feeling grateful for her help.
Dr. Mayfield is very straight forward and doesn't waste time talking about things that don't matter. She's focused on actually "treating" her patients instead of just talking and being their friend. She challenges me to go deeper and encourages me when I make small bits of progress. I feel really lucky to have been matched with someone who's so dedicated to their patients!
Dr. Mayfield is very knowledgeable and uses an approach focused on promoting your success through measured and evidenced results.
Dr. Mayfield is a wonderful counselor. She is a good listener and addresses my issues specifically. She offers many resources and ideas that have given me a chance to work daily on the issues I am having. I highly recommend Dr. Mayfield.
Dr. Mayfield asks great questions that help me leave a chat or phone session feeling lighter.
Dr. Mayfield helps you even without knowing all at once. She asks questions gives good advice and re work strategies as more is discussed. I feel she really listens.
I appreciate your input, insight and direction!!
Dr. Mayfield, Thank you for being a kind and caring listener who asks insightful questions and gently pushes me to dig a little deeper to understand myself and my motivations for acting. I am truly grateful that there are people like you who make their career helping people like me.
Dr. Mayfield listens to all of my concerns and helps me work through all of my problems. She responds in a timely manner and is very professional.
Dr. Mayfield is incredibly attentive and responsive. She has been very professional and supportive and offers direction and guidance that resonates well with me. Dr. Mayfield is also very methodical and logical in her approach, which is refreshing when emotions can seem so non-linear. I definitely can recommend Dr. Mayfield.
She is very knowledgeable and offered me lots of options, on ways to communicate and different types of therapies. She was patient, honest, actually gave me her personal opinion. It was more like talking to a friend.
Very caring and professional. Doc Emily is a gift in my life.
I was skeptical at first. "Therapy through an app? This is like peak millennial behavior". But as I had trouble finding an in person therapist who could also accommodate my schedule (why don't they ever have night and weekend therapists?) I decided to bite the bullet at try Better Help. I feel like I lucked out because Dr Mayfield was my first therapist here and became such a good fit for me I can't imagine what it'd be like to start over again. I came here for ways to manage my anxiety which was interfering with several aspects of my life, including my relationship. Dr Mayfield has been as attentive if not more than even someone who was in front of me. Though we most speak through text, Sr Mayfield's help was been such an integral part of my journey. I feel like I lucked out with her, and if you have her too I hope you feel the same.
She has been supportive, given me helpful ideas and is comforting. It is nice to have someone who isn’t a family member that understands the process of loss. Her responses have been invaluable. I can respond in a non threatening and be honest when writing to her. She asked appropriate questions for me to respond to. Overall very satisfied with the service. Especially since I do not have to drive far and can respond on my time in my home.
