About Me

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and how we can work together to make the changes you are looking for.

I believe therapy is collaborative. When you make the decision to engage in treatment, you are the expert on what you are experiencing. Your voice and opinion is important to the treatment process and we will work together to develop a plan that will lead to desired change, but is manageable. In your initial session(s) you have the opportunity to explain what you are experiencing and what brought you to treatment. With guided questions, you will learn more about what you are experiencing, and a plan can be made. I truly value your input throughout the treatment process.

I have been a licensed clinical psychologist for 12 years. For the first 12 years of my career I was a psychologist in the U.S. Air Force. I have experience working with military members and their families with issues specific to the military lifestyle. I have worked with a variety of people and a variety of mental health symptoms/conditions. Early identification of your symptoms is key to preventing the development of more serious conditions. I have extensive experience working with people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress management difficulties, anger difficulties, trauma, and sleep problems. Relationship and job problems are often at the root of the mental health symptoms and can be addressed in the treatment process.

My approach to therapy is dependent on the concerns the person is reporting and what style works best for them. However, I have been trained extensively in cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT. CBT looks at how what you think impacts how you feel and behave. Sometimes we are stuck in situations that we cannot change, but we can change how we think of the situation. Sometimes just changing how you think can have a huge impact on your mood. This is not the same as positive-thinking, but that is something we can discuss more in treatment. I am also trained in various treatment modalities for treating trauma.

I attended Southern Methodist University where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After assisting various staff in the field of psychology at SMU, I realized the importance of assisting those in need using evidenced-based treatments for mental health conditions and other of life’s struggles. I obtained my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR,

My goal is to teach you, the patient, how to target those areas in your life that are holding you back from being the best you. I look forward to working together with you!

I was skeptical at first about seeking therapy, but after finally deciding to give it a try after continued struggles with some personal matters. I'm glad that I took the plunge and that I was paired up with Dr. Mayfield, she's very easy to talk to. I can talk to her about anything, whether it be work, my day or my problems. Being patient, willing to listen, show interest in what I want to say and most of all, she respects me for ME! I'm blessed that I'm partnered with her and I know that together I'll be a better version of who I want to be, with her help. She's that awesome, relaxed, wise aunt; and that respectable, understanding older sibling that you can look up to all rolled into one. Dr. Mayfield is incredibly attentive and responsive. She has been very professional and supportive and offers direction and guidance that resonates well with me. I was skeptical at first. "Therapy through an app? This is like peak millennial behavior". But as I had trouble finding an in person therapist who could also accommodate my schedule (why don't they ever have night and weekend therapists?) I decided to bite the bullet at try Better Help. I feel like I lucked out because Dr Mayfield was my first therapist here and became such a good fit for me I can't imagine what it'd be like to start over again. I came here for ways to manage my anxiety which was interfering with several aspects of my life, including my relationship. Dr Mayfield has been as attentive if not more than even someone who was in front of me. Though we most speak through text, Sr Mayfield's help was been such an integral part of my journey. I feel like I lucked out with her, and if you have her too I hope you feel the same.

She has been supportive, given me helpful ideas and is comforting. It is nice to have someone who isn’t a family member that understands the process of loss. Her responses have been invaluable. I can respond in a non threatening and be honest when writing to her. She asked appropriate questions for me to respond to. Overall very satisfied with the service. Especially since I do not have to drive far and can respond on my time in my home.
