Emily McCraw

About Me

Hello! My name is Emily and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Virginia. I have been working in the mental health field for 8 years. I have worked with individuals experiencing a variety of issues including family conflict, depression and anxiety, stress-related issues, autism, communication challenges, self-esteem, and many more.

My choice to work in this field comes from the belief that everyone deserves to be understood, heard, and supported while working towards becoming their best selves. After working in both probation and the school settings, I was able to discover my calling to help others in the counseling field. I attended Longwood University, where I earned a master's degree in mental health counseling.

I would describe myself as down-to-earth and open-minded. My belief is that everyone has needs that should be met in order to be their best. I also come from the view that thoughts shape our way of being in the world. It would be my privilege to become a partner in your journey while helping you to figure out your mental health goals. I will provide not only support and understanding but a clear direction, and both solution-focused and CBT strategies to get you to the place you deserve to be.

I look forward to helping you!

Emily has already helped me in so many ways and I’ve only had 3 sessions with her so far. I look forward to them now, where I was Completely terrified before. Emily makes me feel very comfortable and safe and that I can tell her anything. I’m grateful for Emily.

Emily has been super helpful and supportive! Talking with her has been exactly what I needed to calm myself down and learn how to turn my negative thoughts into positive ones :) Highly recommend her!
