About me

My name is Eric and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) with over 6 years of experience as an individual and group therapist. I have worked as an inpatient therapist, in outpatient settings, and as a wilderness therapist for adults. I have a passion for helping others through compassionate and caring conversations guided by our shared goal to help the client heal.

My counseling style is person-centered, trauma-informed, honest, and can be described at times as "compassionately blunt." I care a great deal for my clients and treat each individual as capable rather than fragile, which means we will not shy away from addressing the tougher issues that can emerge from our therapeutic relationship together. Once we get to know one another, my clients and I embark on a journey to problem solve using a more solution-oriented and strengths-based approach with the hope that therapy will have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Feedback and positive assertive communication tend to be a part of this process as well.

I tend to laugh often with clients and use humor as a way of coping through challenging times. I also understand what it is like to make mistakes, and I work hard with clients to reshape their identity using the framework that we are all capable of change and coping with our stressors.

For those struggling with substance use and other addictions, I use motivational interviewing and a DBT-informed approach with the understanding that each client has important individual needs underlying their behaviors. I believe in the power of replacement behaviors and a positive support network to help individuals coping with addiction in all of its forms.

Originally from outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I now live in Salt Lake City, Utah. In my free time I spend as much time outside as possible walking my dogs, hiking, rocking climbing, boating, enjoying music, and reading good fiction.
