About Me
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I I take pride in my work with couples and children. I keep up with current techniques and science; for example, I recently expanded by research and learning into Interpersonal Neurobiology. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and depression. I began my counseling work with a Rape Crisis program over 40 years ago, and that work and training suggested to me that there was much, much more about trauma and relationships that I needed to learn. I served for four years as a hospital Chaplain supporting mental and emotional healing and accommodation of loss and grief. Over ten years ago I entered graduate school and became a Marriage and Family Therapist. I currently hold clinical licenses in DC and Massachusetts. Since 2010, I engaged in the study of attachment theory, a relatively new approach to understanding human development and behavior throughout the life span. I have closely followed the research in that field along with neurobiology, which gives me the unique opportunity to apply current science to my relational work. My practice focuses both on relational problems and individual mental health. I often work hand-in-hand with family members, physicians and psychiatrists in diagnosing, treating, and managing mental and emotional distress.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Eric Slaughter. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Very patient.
Eric has been the best therapist I’ve ever worked with. I feel comfortable working with him and he has helped me regain confidence in myself. I still have work to do and Im glad I have Eric in my corner helping me navigate.
My first impression is that Eric is well-traveled, life-experienced, and educated. Those traits just work together for a good therapist and I look forward to many helpful meetings with him.
Eric is encouraging and thoughtful, and provides a wealth of resources to help!
Eric is completely great, and has been a tremendous help to me and my family.
Eric Slaughter is very knowledgable in current psychology theories and an amazing advocate of my soul. I have gained validation and courage from his ability to communicate and share life knowledge about science and human nature in his theoropy methods. All simply by showing me acceptance and seeing my deeper self through positivity. I grew up in an artist family and Eric totally relates to the artist within people. I give him my highest recommendation to others and also I highly recomend Better Help to friends. - Heather Tilton
Eric has been my therapist for the past month, and honestly I am so thankful for him. I was very hesitant at first, but now I truly look forward to our sessions
Eric is truly the best therapist I could ask for. I've had a rough go with previous therapists, leaving me resistant to new ones. However, Eric was the most warm and welcoming person and truly created a space where I felt comfortable opening up.
His feedback and advice is always validating, helpful, and thoughtful. He always has insightful resources to share with me -- everything from articles, to podcasts, to breathing exercises and affirmations. He is constantly looking to learn new things to improve his practice, which shows just how deeply he cares about what he does.
I am SO incredibly grateful we were matched on BetterHelp and for all the ways he has helped me grow and heal. His help has been invaluable for me.
Eric is a genuine man that takes the time to really get to know you and truly listens. He is proactive with helping and wants to see positive change. I trust that when I present a topic or issue, Eric is able to present clarity and other supports!
He's a good therapist. I feel comfortable talking to him about my traumas. Problems. And he gives me hope.
Eric is a wise, calming presence. A great sounding board for difficult decisions. Offers great, practical guidance.
Eric has been very supportive and respectful. He is not only very professional in counseling, but very wise in life so he could understand my confusion accurately. He gave me tremendous help and made my life so much brighter.
After one session with Eric I am confident that he will help me through my struggles and issues. He is patient and understanding and can relate to a lot of things which makes me feel better. I would definitely suggest him as a therapist and will be continuing my counseling with him.
Eric has been kind and compassionate. He listened very thoughtfully and provided helpful advice.
Eric as been very helpful from the very first sessions and I (we) are looking forward to many more
Eric is an amazingly sweet and insightful therapist. I’ve had previous experiences with therapists specifically through BetterHelp and outside of it, but Eric is hands down the most helpful yet. He’s very flexible with my difficult schedule, supportive and encouraging. He will listen to all your concerns and tell you the things you need to hear while being respectful, yet not coddling. All around, a great therapist.
I appreciate Mr. Slaughters expertise and insight. His approach and concern have been refreshing.
Eric is very informed, empathetic, and considerate. He is a great listener and offers much support.
Eric has been very helpful to the whole family even though I am the one seeking counseling. He has a good understanding of one person in the family having issues effects the rest of the family. He has a broad range of experience, and is very willing to "think outside the box".
After just one session I started to feel really good. He helped me to recognize some of my root issues even during my very first counseling session. I have never participated in counseling before but he makes me feel very comfortable!
Eric is a good therapist. I had a recent health issue, as well as traumatic experiences in my life that has led to some mental health challenges. that needed to address sooner than later. I have suppressed some of these experiences for years (with the exception of a few people close to me), and wanted to work with a therapist to assist in this storm I'm getting through. Eric has been a good resource in this regard.
You can tell he has his clients best interests and is highly recommended.
I really like that this therapist is also experienced in Chaplain work. As a veteran I spoke with my Chaplains more than I did therapists, so the additional background makes him a very good match for my therapy. He is to the point, empathetic but also requests the client to put in the work. This is something I appreciate.
Eric is professional, empathetic, and realistic. Highly recommend.
He's really insightful, and definitely has a guide about how to direct your conversation, but still leaves you to just vent out and say what you need to say. He pays good attention to detail and refers to other studies which shows he is well versed and truly tries his best to give you all you need. He's funny and kind and he's a great choice if you need a counselor.
Very kind and knowledgeable man. I truly believe he knows what he is talking about, he has my best interest at heart and can help me. He has a small tendency to get off topic, and I only get an hour a week with him so that isn’t always the best, but even when he does get side tracked it is still good conversation and it has at least helped me get to know him/connect with him more. I am very happy with him as my therapist and would recommend him to others.
Eric is a great communicator and listener and has helped to push me in the right direction every time we have talked. I have felt improved confidence and self-awareness since we have started working together.
Eric is the perfect counselor in every way I could think of! He's empathetic, asks great questions, and has helped me connect with myself in ways I never would have considered before. Eric has helped me think deeply about my past, where I am, and where I'm going. I'm now moving forward with more confidence and happiness than I've felt in a long time. Thank you!
Eric is very understanding and caring and has been helping me a lot with my pains and concerns. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for emotional support and help with resolving family issues.
This is my first time going to therapy and I have had a very positive experience with Eric so far. He truly listens and asks the right questions to understand my situation. He gives a very honest and objective perspective on my issues and helps me understand why I am feeling the way I am feeling. I came to realizations that I wouldn't have on my own so my sessions have been very helpful.
Mr. Slaughter is a great therapist. Very professional, punctual, and understanding.
