Hello, my name is Gail Amalfitano. I am a licensed mental health counselor. I have specialized in trauma, mood disturbances, and in substance. I am trained in EMDR. I have broad experience as a psychotherapist. I love working with individuals, and families. I also have experience with anxiety, depression, bipolar, codependency, negative thinking styles, phase of life, adjustment issues, self-esteem, social anxiety, feeling stuck, conflicts in relationships, loss of a sense of self, and other issues we face in life that can be confusing or just make us question our own perspectives.
I love the work I do! I am completely invested in helping you feel better and find resolution to whatever issue may be a barrier to your sense of happiness. I am person-centered in my approach. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, brief therapy, positive psychology and solution-focused techniques. I am flexible in my approach as there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counseling. I provide reading material, video clips, handouts, and also recommend some self help articles or websites to help increase knowledge for my clients to learn about the topic or area for which they need help. I believe knowledge is empowering and learning is a life-long process that enhances our ability to tolerate life and learn about ourself. For me, counseling starts out with gathering information from the client that can help shed light on the issues. From there, we talk. I believe that counseling is part listening, part problem solving, part empowering and validating the individual, and part teaching which we call psychoeducation. I am flexible in my approach and for some individuals they might need more of some parts and less of other parts. This is fine and with honest communication, I adjust to meet my client's needs.
Counseling is an adaptable process that evolves over time and as the individual's needs change or evolve. It is a journey unique to each individual. I am nonjudgmental, empathetic, supportive, and I have lots of understanding. I realize it takes great courage to reach out to another person and trust is paramount. You can be sure I will treat you with respect and value your trust! I also value your feedback and your requests. I look forward to walking WITH YOU on your journey! No issue is too big or too small. I can be there for you to listen, to offer ideas, or provide support and validation. I believe in possibilities, options, and solutions. I am passionate about this work and I am happy to share my enthusiasm, hope, and inspiration with you. Let's get started, together, in finding the answers that you need! I look forward to talking with you and working with you!
Please keep in mind finding the right therapist is important and requires exploring method, approach and style. It is not bad or good.

Gail is an amazing therapist, and I’d recommend her to anyone and everyone if I could. She’s made me feel welcomed, deserving, and overall accepted, in instances where I felt I was all alone. I cannot thank her enough for everything she’s done for me and continues to help me with everyday. Without her help and unconditional support I would have fought this battle alone, and I’m thankful that I have her by my side!

I was worried that video therapy would feel awkward, but I was so wrong! Gail sets an open and comfortable environment where I feel free to share anything and I never feel judged. Her input is helpful and easy to understand. I have been able to apply what I learn in session and it’s helping me reach my goals and live a more balanced life in general. I’m so grateful to her and this platform for making help so accessible.

Missus Amalfitano was an excellent person to work with. Very understanding and empathetic while also trying to get to the root of an issue. She was very open to getting messages at any time to support you as well. Which is super helpful, because a lot of the time when you see your therapist it isn't a bad day for you, and they can only really be the most helpful when they catch you on those not as great days and then work together to solve the issue. So I really appreciated that help. All in all, a wonderful lady to be paired with.

There are no words to express my gratitude towards Gail. She changed my life. The first time we met was in December 2021. She is an amazing therapist, I am so grateful (and lucky) that I was matched with her. My anxiety decreased significantly, I can say that it is gone. I feel more confident and my view on certain things in life has changed and improved in so many ways.
I am always looking forward to our meetings. I can talk to her and consult with her about everything! She has great knowledge, and she is always there to help me when I need her. She is kind and delightful and gives you a feeling of acceptance. She is my first therapist, and I am so lucky that it is Gail. Thank you!

It is a safe space to be vulnerable because of my therapist's empathy and attention. I am getting better practicing new techniques because there is always an unwavering patience and non-judgement. Thank you.

Gail has been extremely helpful, not just through our conversations, but also the many resources (videos, handouts, articles etc) that she has shared with me. These allow me to do "homework" towards my therapy goals and to think and reflect outside of the therapy sessions so as to maximize our time. She is genuinely caring, and I feel that I am in excellent hands!

I am so thankful for the sessions I've had with Gail. Discussing my issues with her helped me see things from totally new perspectives that I was not considering at the time, and this is exactly what I was looking for, in seeking a therapist. My partner and I have been communicating much more effectively lately, and I think that has much to do with the insights that came from my sessions with Gail -- as such, we are both very thankful for her.

Gail truly kept me aloat at a time when a multiple set of natural disasters - hurricane, tornado, wildfire, tsunami, volcano all came barrelling down on my life at once. Gail was my liferaft and pulled me out from underwater multiple times (metaphorically speaking). She showed me a part of the intellectual community where people were truly compassionate, compassionate about being compassionate, and made me feel worthy for who I am, and that I am valuable, that I am worth of love. Thanks to her couseling, I feel so much more empowered to be who I am, to be proud of what I've overcome, learning to be satistified with who I am, faults and all, and to be good to myself.
Gail is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in both life and theory. I'd recommend her to anyone. She's the best therapist I've had in over 10 years of therapy.
