About me

Hello and Welcome to Better Help! No matter what brought you here today, I know that choosing to seek support from another person or a psychotherapist is not always an easy task, especially when taking the first step. I also know that therapy can be a very valuable and rewarding journey filled with growth, change, and healing.

My name is Gretchen Lewis, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois, as well as a  researcher, and adjunct professor. I am passionate about helping people become more mindful, present and aware. As a counselor, I help clients heal from past experiences, to create space for growth and change. I also help clients who "feel stuck" work on their true purpose and meaning in life. Before working in the psychology and counseling field, I worked in media and entertainment, in sports marketing, live events and advertising for over 5 years. I then went on to earn my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Counseling Psychology from Adler University in 2015. I am now currently finishing my Ph.D. dissertation research on mindfulness, evaluating the effect of gratitude on resilience and wellbeing. My clinical training has been comprehensive and diverse in hospital, school and corporate settings.
Research shows that the connection between a therapist and client is one of the biggest factors for success in achieving objectives and goals.  Whether you have had previous experience with therapy or not- it is my goal to meet you where you are in this moment and work to build a collaborative treatment plan to help reach your unique goals. My approach is strengths-based and is rooted in positive psychology. As far as therapeutic interventions and techniques that I use, I combine Existential, CBT, DBT, ACT, Adlerian, MI and Gottman approaches. I will work with you individually to clearly define the goals you desire to work on and then determine how I can best support you.

In my work with adolescents and adults, I specialize in treating a variety of concerns including those related to:  trauma, relationships, anxiety, depression, executive coaching, sports psychology, chronic illness, LGBTQ, ADHD, addictions, and self-esteem.
My overall goal is for you to feel heard and empowered. I hope that the ease of access to having therapy at your fingertips will make this process convenient and allow it to be a part of your week that you look forward to.

Professor Lewis is absolutely wonderful. I have been through my fair share of therapists, and every session she is completely invested in my growth and journey. She truly listens, she is compassionate, insightful, and goal focused right along with me. I am so grateful to work with her!!!
