Gwen Paulson, LCSW
About me
Hi! My name is Gwen Paulson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia. My passion is working with women who have experienced trauma. I have found in my 7 years of counseling experience and 11 years of experience in social work, that experiences of trauma can be an internal battle when unresolved. I believe in the amazing strength and resiliency of people to overcome their past and integrate their experiences into their life in a way most meaningful for them.
In addition to my clinical credentials I am also a trained Doula. I love working with women during pregnancy as a Counselor, Doula, and Birth Coach, as well as birthing parents who may be experiencing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. Pregnancy and postpartum is truly transformative in the most profound ways. It is a time when mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health are most vulnerable and challenged. In a society that constantly critiques physical appearance, it can be so challenging during this time to trust our body and our process. In my experience, women who feel heard and supported in their choices surrounding birth reflect on their experience as positive and enter parenthood with confidence.
My approach is empowerment based. To me, empowerment means owning your choices and feeling confident and in control of your life. As your counselor, I view my role as providing you with the tools to empower yourself to meet your goals. My approach is holistic and integrative. I utilize structured techniques of CBT while incorporating mind-body elements of mindfulness, and somatic awareness, for you to tap into your body's wisdom.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling with my family and being outdoors as much as possible.
I look forward to supporting you in your journey.
