Heather Engblom

About Me

I am a licensed professional counselor and I received my master’s in counseling from the University of Denver before moving to North Dakota, where I am working on my Ph.D. in counseling at the University of North Dakota. I have experience in a wide range of concerns with individuals with diverse identities. I have focused my professional skills and training on helping individuals with anxiety, ADHD, stress, family-related concerns, grief, and cancer-related concerns.

My counseling style is interactive and relationship-based. I see all clients as unique individuals with diverse identities and needs. I believe that everyone is an expert in their own lives, and my job is to help you figure out the best way to live your life and accomplish your goals. Thus, we will tailor your counseling to your specific needs. My counseling approach utilizes several different theories, including cognitive-behavioral, acceptance and commitment, emotion-focused, and mindfulness. This means we can pull from various methods to tailor your counseling to fit your lifestyle, beliefs, and preferences. We can work together using thought-based, emotional, and behavioral techniques to help overcome the challenges you might be facing. This includes techniques like; thought-changing skills to lower anxiety, coping skills for stress, mindfulness to gain better control over your body, grounding exercises to lessen the negative impact emotions can have on you, and much more. All while we discuss and define your problems and ways you'd like to improve your quality of life.

I look forward to getting to know you better!

Speaking with Heather is the only time I’ve truly been heard.

So far I have enjoyed working with Heather Engblom. She is very understanding of what therapy works for my needs and I feel like I can trust her more than I have been able to trust other therapists in the past. Great at having an open mind which gives me a sense of relief when discussing my issues.
