About Me
Hello and welcome! Thank you for taking a few moments to read about me. I truly hope that you find the help you are looking for whether it is with me or another therapist. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Missouri. I earned my Master of Science degree (MS) specializing in Counseling Psychology from Avila University. I have practiced therapy in a Community Mental Health Agency, outpatient clinics, and private practice. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, families and adults. I have extensive experience in working with those who are coping with depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief, self-esteem, relationship issues, and stress. People struggling with addictive behaviors are also a specialty of mine.
I am open-minded, compassionate, warm, interactive and non-judgmental. My counseling style combines person/client centered treatment, cognitive behavioral and trauma therapy modalities. I am trained in a number of psychotherapy modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Reprocessing (EMDR). TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have been impacted by trauma. This approach successfully resolves many emotional and behavioral difficulties that are associated with trauma experiences. EMDR is a therapy approach that helps individuals who have dealt with loss, trauma or abuse. My treatment approach involves tailoring your treatment to your needs and goals with use of evidence-based treatments. I believe the most important aspect of counseling is the relationship, connection and comfort that you feel with the person who choose to disclose your personal struggle with. I believe each person can grow by working through things from the past that are holding them back and learning skills to help them when they feel stuck. It would be my privilege to be able to share this journey with you and help you share your personal truths with me and be accepted and understood.
I look forward to working with you.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Heather Hawkins . We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Regardless of going through a rough time or not, it is nice to get an outside opinion on the way I live my life. Heather is very good at listening to what I have to say and providing insightful discussion/feedback.
She's amazing, keeps it professional, I wish she didn't so much haha, but love her 1 yr strong!
I think Heather has been a wonderful match for me. I feel comfortable discussing anything with her, and trust her to give me honest feedback. She is very calming, and provides a relaxing atmosphere in which to open up about difficult topics. I think she is great at what she does and would not hesitate to recommend her services.
I've been working with Heather for a year and she completely changed my life. She listens and really hears you, is incredibly supportive, and breaks things down into manageable steps. I have so many more coping skills and communication strategies because of her. She challenges me in the best ways and pushes me to be better, and even when I don't want her to be, she's always right. Heather would make a great counselor for anyone to work with.
