About me

Welcome to the wonderful world of counseling!

I am Heather and I am a wife, mother, nature lover, and foodie! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate with over 7 years of counseling experience. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with my Master's in Counseling and Psychology in 2013. I worked for 3 years on an Assertive Community Treatment Team, providing individual and group therapy for adults with severe and persistent mental illness. For the past 4 years, I have primarily provided mental health and substance use intensive outpatient group therapy for individuals with addictions and mood disorders.

I have experience providing individual/group therapy to clients with a wide range of issues including mood/anxiety disorders, personality disorders, substance use disorders, PTSD, self-harm behaviors, relationship issues, and process addictions.

My areas of expertise include symptom management, addiction and recovery, grief and loss, codependency, trauma and abuse, stress management, emotion regulation, and goal setting.

I believe counseling is a collaborative effort, which cannot be successful without a strong relationship between the therapist and client. I understand the importance of feeling supported, accepted, respected, and heard. My laid back but interactive therapeutic approach is aimed to create a safe and supportive environment in which you feel comfortable sharing any concerns you may have. My role is not to judge, criticize, or tell you what to do but to provide support, suggestions, and insight into any issues you feel comfortable bringing up. I also understand that every person comes from a different background and has been shaped by a variety of beliefs, past experiences, traits, skills, and environmental factors and I am open to working with you in a way that is best for you. Ultimately, the counseling experience is all about you!

I look forward to working with you towards a more fulfilled, empowered, and healthier version of yourself!

My experience with Heather has been extremely positive. I have never had a good experience with any of my previous therapists and she has been kind, patient and the first to properly listen to my story and respond intelligently. She's helped me get through a lot of toxic perceptions i've had about therapy and I would definitely recommend her to someone else.

So far my experience with Heather has been great. She is concerned about me, responds daily and has ideas for me to think about. I would have more to say after more time has passed.
