About Me
Hi, my name is Heather Rhodes and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in New Jersey. I have been working in the field of mental health and substance abuse since 2003. My experience has been with a variety of individuals dealing with many different symptoms and diagnoses. I have experience helping people with substance abuse and other process addictions, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder, domestic violence (both victims and perpetrators), anger management, co-dependency, intimacy and relationship problems. I am trained in EMDR although this is not a modality I use in online therapy. I have worked in substance abuse facilities, the courts, women's programs and a community mental health center.
My counseling style is a person-centered, eclectic, trauma-informed approach. I utilize a variety of approaches including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, Humanistic, Internal Family Systems and others that all contribute to my eclectic style. I believe in following your lead in creating goals for counseling since you are the best expert on yourself. I utilize a collaborative approach and adapt to suit your needs. I can be directive and solution-focused or I can just be a supportive listener depending on what you need. I have a straight-forward approach and appreciate feedback so we can continually examine how the therapeutic relationship is going and I can make tweaks along the way since counseling is a dynamic process.
It takes a lot of courage to make a step toward your mental well-being. I am ready to assist you and honored to be a part of your journey whenever you are ready. I look forward to working with you!

Have been working with Heather for a number of months now and have found her to be extremely helpful. She’s especially a good listener, as I’m not always seeking advice but just a good vent and someone to say “yep, makes sense”. Heather responds very adequately and doesn’t leave ya hanging for a few days which is seriously important to me as well. Overall, I’d rate Heather 10/10, would recommend!
Heather has been great. She listens clearly and offers sound practical advice that has been very helpful. Highly recommend!
Heather has helped me more than any therapist ever. She has literally saved my life in so many ways. I really cannot thank her or betterhelp enough- this experience has been more helpful than hospitalization, intensive inpatient, intensive outpatient, face to face traditional therapy, group, peer- I have lots of experience and this is really the first time I’m making strides. Heather is the best therapist ever- but I also think that being able to write out my thoughts and then have her insights is so much more helpful than any other form of therapy. I couldn’t even think about stuff to talk about during appointments because I express what’s happening right then but I can always express myself on here so the real feelings, the real connections are being shared in the time I’m experiencing it. It’s just such a great service and Heather couldn’t be more knowledgeable and professional and open to what really works for me and makes me feel comfortable and safe. I just can’t thank any of you enough for all the help!

Heather continues to help me through my daily struggles and worries. I'm very fortunate to have her by my side on a daily basis!
I feel confident in the expertise of my counselor and I feel that I am heard. The only suggestion that I have is that it would be helpful if various ways of communication were offered by the counselor (phone, video, etc. ). Thanks!
Heather is a wonderful counselor. I’ve been working with her a few months now, and she is always professional, responds quickly to my messages, and checks in on me when I don’t write for a few days. I’m lucky to have her.
Heather has been such a great support to me. Without fail she has been checking up on me when there’s been a pause on my side regarding responses. She has eliminated any possibility of stress and obligation in terms of how the rate at which I delve into my personal issues. I would highly recommend her as a counselor especially for those in the LGBTQ+ community and/or those with alcohol or substance abuse issues.
I was working with another counselor and almost quit Better Help when it was suggested I try another person first. Heather beyond understands and is a sounding board I have needed to get everything out. She's helping me see that I am doing everything I can in most situations and that I have to let go of things I can't change.
She's making me focus on me and self care and puts things in a way that are firm and supportive instead of just repeating back things and making me find the answers and help I need. The new techniques for coping are a godsend and I'm very thankful I was matched with her because I am seeing improvement already.
Heather has been immensely helpful during a difficult time in my life. She's always kind and thoughtful but will ask the tough questions. I enjoyed my time working with her even when I struggled to be present at times.
Heather is absolutely amazing. I have confided in her for months now, which is honestly the longest i've ever been able to talk to someone without getting frustrated or losing hope. She really makes you feel cared for and understood. If you don't answer right away she'll check up on you. She's a great listener and is really validating. I have faith in this site and in getting better, thanks to her.
I've been working with Heather for a couple of weeks and find that she's responsive and supportive. Though we've only just begun, I'm encouraged that she will help guide me to resolve the issues I've been dealing with.
She’s very helpful and a good listener. She responds to messages in the morning and in the evening and is good about setting up weekly face to face appointments. I feel like she helps me sort out the issues I’m having and is responsive to my concerns.
Heather is very competent. I feel comfortable sharing with her. She responds to my replies 7 days a week, which would be helpful to someone that needs her input on a weekend when someone battling addiction might slip up without support. I highly recommend Heather.
Heather has been a tremendous help in guiding me and keeping me narrowed in on a path where I can truly begin to break new grounds. She continues to challenge me emotionally, mentally and psychologically but never has she pushed me beyond my threshold.
Heather is an amazing counselor. She's a fellow mom, so she understands my emotions and what I'm going through. She responds quickly, and gives me exercises to help me calm down. I'd recommend her to literally everyone.
She is helpful!
She is thought provoking, in ways that ignite motion in head and heart. Helpful and supportive in healing as well as growing.
Heather is an exceptional counselor who's able to provide tools for working through relationship issues, revisiting how you react to certain situations, and deciding to do so in a more constructive, healthy way. I'd recommend her to anyone.
Heather Rhodes is an amazing counselor. She responds to me quickly and goes out of her way to reach out to me to see how I am doing throughout the week. I enjoy our sessions to gather. I am very comfortable speaking to her about anything. She is very understanding and compassionate.
Heather Rhodes is amazing. I have been working with her for over 4 months and I couldn't ask for more from this service or therapist. She is extremely attentive, follows up if she hasn't heard from me, sends me additional material that she feels will be helpful, and is very honest. She always makes time for me. I can't thank her enough. My life has drastically changed in time that I have worked with her.
Heather is not only good at what she does, she seems compassionate. She reached out even after she was having a difficult time in her own chapter. She is asking good questions and she is helping me with my relationship with my therapist offline.
Heather is great. You can talk to her about almost anything that is troubling you. She is also very understanding and extremely helpful in providing possible solutions or aids to whatever is going on with you.
Heather is easy to talk to and very responsive.
Good response time from Heather and she is very helpful.
Heather is really professional at her job. She is on time at her responses, and she respects the patient's plan of treatment.
Heather always replies quickly and checks in regularly. She has been very helpful to me.
Heather is a very helpful counselor. She is great at reading what you provide and reflecting back to you what is said in a different way, while also providing insightful questions for you to ponder for your response. She replies in a timely manner and her messages are always empathetic and kind. I highly recommend her!
Heather's wise and kind words helped me massively through one of the very worst times of my life. I am enormously grateful
Great therapist....offers concrete suggestions to put into place and maintains regular communication.
I've been trying to seek help for the issues that I have held on to my entire life and was always unsuccessful in finding someone who would actually listen or help me without prescribing me with drugs that made me feel worse. My social anxiety from my multiple failed attempts made it difficult to talk and I searched for alternative methods, which brought me here.
It took me a few counselors before getting matched with Heather and from day one she was so helpful and paid attention to everything I said. She has been a great help to me and has helped me understand many things about myself that I had never thought possible. I am very glad that I signed up and even more glad that I got matched with someone who can do what the other therapists couldn't do for me.
