About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in eastern North Carolina. I have been working in community mental health as a licensed professional since 2014 with a focus on helping others navigate their journey and learn to be more patient and compassionate with themselves. I recently worked with the refugee population from Afghanistan in 2021-2022 to provide trauma-informed care and teach them mindfulness skills to regulate their stress response. As a veteran of 27yrs, I have a special interest in working with the military population that include personnel and their dependents. I have experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults of all ages.

I believe in building the interpersonal process with you because regardless of the intervention, it is the therapeutic rapport and working alliance that lay the foundation for progress. I believe in listening more and talking less when it comes to hearing your story. There is a time for teaching, discussion, and retrospection that comes naturally after the story has been heard. Part of the process is discovering the answer already lays within the story itself. It is also from the story, and from you, that I can determine the best theoretical approach or approaches based on the needs, the presenting issue, and you yourself. I primarily draw from mindfulness techniques and CBT to initiate the process. It is dependent upon the person and the issues presented on what other theoretical frameworks are brought into play.

She’s a great thoughtful listener who allows me time to speak and process and provides me with questions that I have to take time to process and really think about.

Heather hears what I'm not saying. She catches thought processes before I've realized I'm going down a negative path. Heather is showing me techniques to recognize my spirals and how work through them.
