I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (NC #10893) with a Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I have experience in community mental health, college counseling, and private practice. My specialty areas include anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, panic disorders, trauma, and depression.
I offer both short and long-term therapy and use a confidential, practical, and positive approach with adults dealing with issues such as:
Feeling stressed and overwhelmed
Depression and anxiety
Sexual assault/Domestic violence
My counseling approach is eclectic, systemic, holistic and humanistic. As a mindfulness-based, existentialist therapist, my goal is to provide the means and the guidance to support you in finding the internal and external resources to create the life you desire. Our work may focus on changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as well as taking a developmental look at where problems may have originated. Together, in a collaborative process, we will develop goals and interventions that are tailored to your unique and specific needs.
It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Heather is an amazing listener and always has productive suggestions. I’ve been working with her for over 9 mos now and my anxiety and coping skills have continued to improve. I highly recommend her!
Talking to Heather Scarboro really improves my healing process.
Heather is great - she really listens and respects me and offers a new perspective which is very helpful. I would very much recommend Heather to any of my friends or family.
Heather is so understanding and always there.
Heather has been a life saver. She is exactly what I needed at this point in my life. Don't know what I would do without her services.
A more wonderful counselor couldn't have been found!
Heather is lovely, easy to talk to and really knows how to spot what needs to be focussed on. She makes you feel very comfortable and supported.
Heather is really an incredible therapist. She helps you navigate through really difficult areas by providing you tools to unpack your experiences. She is a very thoughtful, empathetic and super intelligent person and I'm so glad we were paired.
For anyone who needs a therapist who deals with trauma but from a mindfulness kind of approach to therapy, Heather is the therapist for you.
Heather has helped me turn the corner and look at my challenges in different ways to help me understand them. Her abilities to relate to some challenges and empathize with others is a great asset.
Heather has been really helpful throughout my journey. She checks in on my between sessions and I truly feel empathy from her at all times. I also feel like she’s genuinely invested in helping me overcome challenges and does so in a positive manner. I never feel judged and always feel hopeful at the end of every session. Thanks Heather for all the great support!
Heather listened and immediately got me. Thanks!!!
Heather has been very responsive and great to talk to so far. I’m looking forward to our first live session next week.
