About me

I'm a clinical psychologist licensed in Ohio with seven years of experience providing psychotherapy for a wide range of concerns. My experience includes working with individuals who have concerns with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, histories of trauma, PTSD, and interpersonal difficulties.

I identify primarily with a cognitive behavioral approach, but incorporate skills from a variety of therapeutic orientations. Treatment can sometimes feel robotic, and I want to make sure that my clients are able to experience the opposite. People deserve a compassionate and caring therapist who meets them where they are. I believe that clients are the experts on their own experiences and I work to empower them so that they can create the changes they want to see in their lives.

Taking the first step or trying again with therapy is incredibly difficult. Choosing a therapist that will be the best for your needs can also be hard. I am happy to discuss your expectations and desires for treatment and help you navigate more easily through this time. I look forward to working with you!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Heather Smith. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Dr. Smith's care has been invaluable. From our very first session her genuine kindness shown through and made me feel comfortable in being open. While I needed a few reminders that she's only here for me, and I don't have to pretend everything is fine, I was able to receive help in a different way than I have experienced from friends, family, mentors, etc. I recommend her to anyone who needs a gentle, reassuring, and supportive vibe who is focused on real world application.

Heather is one of the best things in my life! We get along amazingly well and I tell her more than I tell anyone else in my life. I am beyond grateful for her! She has helped me immensely.
I’m sure the goal is to eventually not need therapy, but I would never not want to have her in my life. Highly highly recommend.

Heather has been a phenomenal therapist. I started therapy to address some inter-personal conflicts, and not only did Heather help me validate my feelings and concerns, but she helped me acknowledge and address some past traumas that were causing harmful thought patterns. Therapy with Heather has been the best decision I've made in my adulthood, and has changed my life for the better.
In my teens I was seen by a therapist I wasn't compatible with and it left me with a negative view of therapy ('it's just not for me'); working with Heather has changed my outlook. She's incredibly knowledgable and has also helped provide me with resources for things I wouldn't have expected from a therapist-- such as resources in my city to contact for an elderly neighbor, or TikTok creators that discuss building healthy boundaries in relationships. She quickly learned what worked for me, and adapted her style to mine. She shows me a lot of empathy and is not afraid to professionally and respectfully call me out when I'm being hard-headed and unreasonable.

Heather smith has helped me more than I can explain in a simple message. I am doing things now in life that I didn’t think I would ever be able to do. My thoughts we’re getting in the way, She helped me find away to understand them and work with them. Now I have more clarity and understanding than I thought was possible.
