About me

Hello! I am pleased to introduce myself as your future counselor. My name is Heather Vani and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York and Board Certified in Telemental Health (BC-TMH), nationally. For the past 16 years I have worked full-time as a Counselor in a hospital and private setting. Currently, I work with individuals who have a wide range of mental health concerns - such as anxiety, substance use and Bipolar Disorder. I specialize in relationship management, career exploration and symptom management.
I began my education at Long Island University where I earned a Bachelors in Psychology. Following my undergraduate experience, I continued to the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University where I earned an Masters in Mental Health Counseling. In addition to being a Licensed Clinician in New York State, I earned my credentials as a Board Certified Telemental Health (BC-TMH) provider. This is a credential that identifies Professional Counselors who are uniquely trained in best practices for delivering traditional counseling through technological means.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion; and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, client centered, symptom focused and motivational interviewing. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and this is the first step towards change - Congratulations! If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you!

I have training and experience in Individual, Group, and Vocational Counseling. I believe a trusting working relationship between counselor and client is important and I strive to achieve that rapport. I will challenge you in an empathetic and respectful manner to look within yourself for change. I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles. Being accepting, objective, respectful, and genuine are characteristics essential in working with any client. Overall, counseling is a process in which you the individual gain knowledge and tools that will facilitate continued growth and development after therapy has ended.

I look forward to working together!

Heather was nothing but the most professional and compassionate counselor. I appreciated her patience and usage of surveys, worksheets and focused conversation to get to the root of my issues and in turn find a bespoke solution. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to talk to but also to utilize all the tool available in order to lead a better, happier and healthier life.
