Heather Vani

(MA, LMHC, BC-TMH)

About Me

I am pleased to introduce myself as your potential future counselor. My name is Heather Vani and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York and Board Certified in Telemental Health (BC-TMH). For the past 13 years I have worked full-time as a Counselor in a hospital and private setting. Currently, I work with individuals who have severe and persistent mental illness...such as Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia. I specialize in relationship management, career exploration, resume writing as well as working with individuals on depression and anxiety; specifically panic attacks.
I began my education at Long Island University - C.W. Post where I earned a B.A. in Psychology. Following my undergraduate experience, I continued to the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University where I earned an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling. In addition to being Licensed Clinician in New York State, I recently earned my credentials as a Board Certified Telemental Health (BC-TMH) provider, which is a credential that identifies professional counselors who are uniquely trained in best practices for delivering traditional counseling through technological means.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion; and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, client centered, symptom focused and motivational interviewing. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life. This is the first step towards change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you! I look forward to meeting you.

I have had training and experience in Individual, Group, and Vocational Counseling. I believe a trusting working relationship between counselor and client is important and I strive to achieve that rapport. I will challenge you in an empathetic and respectful manner to look within yourself for change. I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles and feel being accepting, objective, respectful, and genuine are characteristics essential in working with any client. Overall, counseling is a process in which you the individual gain knowledge and tools that will facilitate continued growth and development after therapy has ended.

I look forward to working with you!

Heather is wonderful. She listens to my concerns and problems but always helps me to rephrase them in a more positive light and to see where the underlying issues are. She checks in to see how I'm doing regularly, and I get the feeling that she really cares about me and that I'm doing ok. It's a support and perspective I really need right now at a transition in my life, and I'm incredibly thankful for her.

Heather was always very courteous in making sure I led our discussions and talked about what I needed to talk about. I'm only leaving her because our schedules aren't matching up for the live sessions.

Heather has been super supportive and insightful during our sessions and it’s opened my eyes to how I interact in the world. Looking forward to continuing to gain clarity about myself and others.
