Helen Mullin

About Me

I am a licensed clinical social worker licensed in New York State. My experience in the field of listening spans more than 25 years. My work has taken me to non-profit clinics, schools, and for the last 17 years I have been in private practice. My approach to therapy is eclectic and grounded in psycho-dynamic, trauma focused, and body-centered principles. Meeting a client wherever they are and listening for where they would like to be when the work is done, is part of my work with a client.

I have worked in agencies in NYC as part of my development as a social worker. I have had a private practice since 2002 for a few hours per week. In 2008, my private practice was full time. Having taught cognitive behavioral courses at graduate schools, I can help with difficulties you may have with your perceptions, your actions and your feelings. I am always listening for the you that you want to become. Helping you with thinking through your choices and supporting your desire to reach wherever it is you want to be is all part of the process of therapy.

I am a trained EMDR practitioner and I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. Both of these treatment techniques can be used in our work together.
I believe that those who have come to work with me are changed when they leave treatment. Come and see what therapy can hold for you. I have a special affinity for persons in recovery and LGBTQ persons. I use her, hers and she as my pronouns.

I would love to work with you and be your guide to a better self.

Written by K.A. on Jan 13, 2020 after counseling with Helen for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, and self esteem

I find that although I have not been receiving help from Helen for very long, it has been more useful than any help I have received before. She is very non-judgemental, unbiased and makes a lot of sense with what she says. She is great at wording her advice in ways that I won't find too overwhelming and seems to adapt how she speaks to make it easier to talk to her. As a result I feel able to really open up to her and benefit from the help I receive.
