About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. I started out 20 years ago working with the elderly and disabled. I spent 15 years working with hospice and home health patients and their families, to address emotional needs and provide grief counseling and support. It was through these experiences that I learned the need for compassion and support in my community. The last five years I have focused in on clinical counseling in nursing homes, schools, and now with persons of all ages in outpatient therapy.

During my time in the mental health field I am still surprised at the number of people who tell me they have no one in their lives to just listen to their concerns and feelings. My approach is to try to meet my clients where they are at. I like to move at a pace that best fits individual situations, needs, and comfort level. I prefer treatment approaches of Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, and Narrative therapy concepts. I like to help my clients with re-framing and replacing negative thoughts and behaviors with positive ones. I work at helping my clients with challenging any irrational thoughts and distorted thinking that leads to anxiety and depression. I like to help my clients to close past chapters of life in order to focus on the present and future seasons of life. In general I strive to help my clients find ways to improve their mood, and increase comfort levels in social situations. I do this by teaching about positive coping and thinking skills, and relaxation techniques.

I do share my sense of humor with my clients , as I think laughing and humor is good for the body, mind, and soul. I’m very glad that I now work specifically in the area of mental health wellness. It has been the most satisfying work I have ever done, whether it is with children, teens, adults, or elderly persons. I enjoy working with others, problem solving, giving emotional support, and being the one to provide a listening ear.
