About me

Hello! Congratulations on taking steps toward your healing by seeking a counselor - that takes a lot of vulnerability and bravery. The most lasting changes are made when we are in control of them, and this is a great step forward in taking control of and managing your life.

I’ll tell you a little bit about me so you can decide if we might be a good fit. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon and a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in Nebraska with over 8 years of experience working with individuals, families, and couples. I have worked at two therapeutic boarding schools and a counseling support network where I have been privileged to help individuals and families work through hurt and trauma, grow through struggles, and come through on the other side stronger. This has included offering support to individuals through periods of high anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts, and working through trauma and grief to a place of peace and comfort. I’ve also worked with parents through difficult periods of parenting as their children make decisions outside of their control, and helped individuals and families as they continue to process the effects of trauma, adoption, and/or grief. Sometimes life feels overwhelming, and most people go through a period or long stretches of anxiety and depression. We all want deep and meaningful connections in our lives and to experience wholeness. As we work together I want to empower you to take charge of who you are through tools, through support, and through new thought patterns. Sometimes we all need a safe space to cry and be ourselves so we can face the world, and I feel honored when someone shares their story with me. It’s a privilege to witness when someone faces the darkness and moves forward into the healthy and whole life that they want, and I want this for you.

Primarily, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to draw from tools and well-researched methods for coping and growing. I have experience in helping individuals, families, and couples develop healthy boundaries and healthy communication so you can be your best self in the world and with the people around you. I am a Christian and can also provide a Christian therapeutic perspective if this is something you are looking for.

This is your story and your time, so may you continue to take charge of who you are. I look forward to getting to know you.

Written on Nov 26, 2022 after therapy with Holly for 2 years and 3 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, grief, self esteem, coping with life changes, and compassion fatigue

Holly has continued to be my safe place through the toughest years of my life. And as time passes, she has become so much more. Truly listens, asks specific questions from previous sessions, messages when something comes to mind in her daily life that applies to the work we do in live sessions. I often forget I’m not her only client. That says a great deal about her dedication, expectations of herself, and level of honor she gives her clients.

Holly is very invested in my growth. I feel supported by her but not coddled. She is not afraid to challenge or prod me when my actions are not consistent with my goals, but never with judgement or condescension.

Holly has always met me where I am at mentally. She listens when I need to work through my problems myself, and she offers guidance when I am feeling lost.

Holly helped me replace many of the hurtful scripts I had grown up with. Through her encouragement I have learned to trust myself, make decisions for myself, set boundaries, respect other's boundaries, and face so many challenges over this past year with her. I will be so sad to no longer work with her as I relocated, but if she is your therapist you also are gaining an amazing friend who will listen to your challenges with compassion and a heart that only wants to see the best for you.

Written on Dec 09, 2021 after therapy with Holly for 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, and self esteem

Holly is always welcoming, always giving, and always smiling. She helped me take steps to overcome addiction, heal from trauma via the death of a parent, and improve my ability to articulate my emotions to others. Holly was always on time and would responded to every one of my messages promptly and substantially. If you are searching for an insightful, experienced, professional, and incredibly caring therapist… choose Holly Sturges

Holly is incredibly compassionate and personable, she listens and truly hears what I am saying and she has given me really powerful insights and questions to reflect on to aid in my healing. She is so intentional about following up after our video calls to send encouragement, insights and reminders / recaps of what it would be helpful to work on for the week. She has been a huge blessing and I feel so lucky to have her as an advocate!

Holly is a wonderful listener, wise beyond her years, and has great emotional intelligence! Even through a screen she is able to make you feel heard and validated. She's knows when to let you speak, and when to cut in to help organize your thoughts into a clear message. She has helped me bring so much confidence back to myself.

Holly really listens to me and is able to help me sort through my feelings and give me different ways to look at things. It's been really helpful talking to her. She is very easy to talk to and I feel comfortable opening up to her. It's like talking to a really close friend that also happens to have expert advice.

She is great! She is so warm, welcoming and makes me feel heard. I so look forward to her sessions. She has such a calming presence that I just feel so comfortable to talk to her and open up to her. I finally feel like I have someone who will listen. Like today I felt overwhelmed and my first thought was “I’m gonna send this to Holly” and it was just so great feeling like I have someone to vent to. Super awesome! She makes me love this app so much!
