Hope Torres

About Me

Hello! My name is Hope. I am a mother (in my 40's) of three wonderful children, a US Air Force Veteran, prior law enforcement, and an LPC in Texas. I graduated from Texas A&M University-Central Texas with my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I currently attending Liberty University and have a year left in obtaining my Doctorate of Education in Community Counseling and Care-Traumatology.

I am the Vice President and Director of Counseling of a Veteran nonprofit that works with local law enforcement as a crisis response program to assist them on calls they have with Veterans in mental health crisis. We provide peer support to the Veterans and follow-on support if they request it through meeting at their home, for lunch or coffee, at a gym, or a park for a walk. I have responded to over 20 calls to provide mental health crisis support to Veterans that were suicidal; we are blessed that are continued to live their lives. I do community work with Veterans and foster care families in need with obtaining and providing donated items to prevent mental health stressors related to lack of finances to obtain needed items, such as clothing, furniture, and food.

I worked as a police officer for six years and helped people in many vulnerable situations, especially individuals experiencing crises. I have seen the way things in life can impact individuals. I do understand and accept there are things that happen in life that are outside of society's "norm". I have witnessed people rise from the ashes in life to overcome many hardships, and I was blessed to be a part of some of those moments in their lives. The work opened the door to the many differences in people and how many struggle in the dark when they are not seen as conforming to what is accepted in society. I am able to see what is unseen in words people speak, I can look past the surface to hear and feel things someone might not be able to outright state. My heart is compassionate to all and my mind is opened accepting how each individual is.

My experiences have developed my skills in communication, understanding situations, seeing different sides of issues, examining the depth of issues, obtaining the small details that can be overlooked at stressors, and getting to the heart of what is happening. Everyone experiences some form of trauma in their life and that one moment can cause a ripple effect in development and life, but can be removed as a reason or excuse for certain behaviors through realization in counseling. Individuals are free to express themselves as they need to with me, I do not get offended and understand that not everyone can talk in a "proper" manner when experiencing certain emotions. I ask questions and work to connect-the-dots with clients to bring awareness.

Trauma, depression, PTSD, abuse, and more mental health issues impact people in different ways. I have experienced much trauma in my life, especially my childhood, and I understand how the past can sometimes dictate how we respond to things as adults. But I can attest that there are ways to lift one's self up and grow in life. I understand that life can be unpredictable and people process experiences much different from each other. There is not one way to address things individuals are going through, and I address this in different ways according to the needs of my clients.

I believe in positive support and bringing awareness to situations. PTSD can lead people into dark times within themselves, this is something I am not afraid to enter to help them come back to the light in life. I enter the journey of healing and growth with my clients and help them gain perspectives in their lives that work towards them achieving their goals in counseling. There is no judgment from me with what struggles a person is facing, as my mind is open to seeing we are all different and that is what makes each and every one of us unique.

I have worked with PTSD (combat-related {law enforcement and military}, sexual trauma, physical and mental abuse), depression, anxiety (adults and teenagers), self-esteem struggles, and setting life and career goals.

I adapt my schedule to needs the best I can. What I place on my schedule is not definitive and is tailored as needed. I understand people have jobs and can only talk in evenings and weekends, this are times that I am also available. If there is a list minute need to talk, I will do my best to work that appointment.

I will talk between sessions so you do not have to wait to talk when something comes up. I believe in maintaining connections to my clients and not letting them be alone as they wait. There is an approach I take that is unique and makes communicating relaxing.

Take the next step and let's work together to get you on the path you desire. As a team, we take the walk to overcome obstacles and achieve the goals.

Hope is great! She has a lot of life experience which is something I admire and was looking for on my search for a counselor. She gives me real advice that doesn't sound too textbook. She knew right off the bat what was causing my anxiety and quickly helped me overcome my issues. I really enjoy talking to her even if there's not a whole lot to say, it just feels nice to have an unbiased person to vent to.

Hope is amazing and I actually hit the wrong number for how quickly she responds! She has awesome response time and checks in between sessions to see how I’m doing. I couldn’t have picked a better counselor!
