About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed School Counselor. During my career I have worked as a School Counselor for Chicago Public Schools, a Youth Services Counselor, and a Mental Health Counselor. I have focused on relationship and family dynamics, self-esteem and identity development and surviving and even thriving in life transition.

I believe that there is no secret ingredient to living a good life. My approach in therapy is to guide and encourage each individual to take the small daily steps that will set them on the path they desire. Using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy informed practices I embrace holistic methods to mental health and believe that taking care of your mind, body and soul come as a package deal.

I earned my Masters Degree in Counseling from Loyola University Chicago. and my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Michigan State University. I grew up in the Traverse City area and returned with my husband to raise our children. I loves reading and yoga. I have been meaning to get back into running since the birth of my second child…. any day now! And I am actively working through my nacho addiction.

I look forward to working with you!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Isabel Lorton. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Isabel is both an open-minded and a supportive counselor who always responds promptly to my messages. She provides useful feedback and asks thought-provoking questions (even if they are sometimes tough!). I find the time I have put in with her to be extremely useful and she has helped me better understand my anxiety and given me diverse tools and approaches to managing it. I recognize that this is an on-going process and far from over but I'm really pleased to have found a counselor who fits my needs and is virtually "by my side" as I continue on this path.

Isabel has been exceptional in my marriage crisis...she seems to know exactly what my wife mindset is and I look forward to her insight everyday.
