About me

Thanks for maintaining hope and reaching out for support. And thanks for taking time to read my profile.

My approach to counseling is a humanistic one, as I believe all humans are unique individuals that share a common drive to fulfill our potential. Our future is undetermined, but we have the capacity to shape our thoughts, feelings and behaviors to make more room for a positive today and tomorrow.

I have nearly twenty years professional experience helping others, including work as a crisis/suicide prevention counselor, hospice counselor, Peace Corps volunteer, school counselor and clinical social worker. I earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver in 2012, concentrating in family systems and animal-assisted social work.

Counseling techniques I use include: Cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing as well as many other approaches. While I utilize numerous modalities, I remain a client-centered counselor. There is only one you and I will rely on your expertise of yourself to guide our work together. Also, as a social worker, I firmly believe in the power of relationships, so much of our work will explore your relationship with self as well as others.

Our first sessions together will concentrate on helping you feel comfortable sharing. I will keep an unconditional positive regard for you and demonstrate genuine curiosity and empathy. I will ask you thoughtful questions and encourage you to ask whatever questions you may have. Once we know each other better we can begin crafting some concrete goals.

Perhaps you might consider my experience, philosophy and approach a good match for the therapeutic help you are looking for. If so, please contact me when you are ready. In any case, I wish you all the best on your continued journey through this thing called life.

Peace,
Jaceson Cole, LCSW
