About me

I am a mental health therapist, a licensed clinical social worker with 28 years of experience.

My general approach to working with people is commonly called person-centered. I believe most people are the best experts on their own lives. People I work with usually tell me what is going on with them and what they would like to be different. I make sure I understand them and then assist them to explore options for making things better and/or coping with things as they are.

I create a judgment-free zone for the people I work with. I share ideas and tools that might be helpful based on my years of experience and knowledge as a therapist.

I have extensive knowledge of and experience utilizing and sharing “evidenced-based” practices, which simply means therapies and strategies that have been shown by research to be effective for dealing with certain problems.

My many years of experience include working with people who have depression, anxiety, problems regulating their emotions, personality disorders, substance addictions, relationship problems, and a variety of psychotic disorders.

I have bachelor's degrees in English and social work from Weber State University and a master's degree in social work from the University of Utah. I have post master’s degree training in advanced mental health and substance abuse treatment.

When I started BetterHelp I was really in a place of emotional turmoil and I didn't even know what I needed to feel better. Talking to Jack was really easy and he never once judged me or made me feel less than. This was definitely one of the best things I've done for myself and I've learned a lot within a few months. I'd recommend BetterHelp to any and everyone, lifechanging.

I love speaking to Jack Gift. He is an active and attentive listener with a mind and heart that is educated and wise and compassionate. He understands and participates in my healing and helps me discover those things that can help me learn about myself and make progress towards healthy mental and emotional health.

I am grateful for our conversations and for the sensitive and caring ways in which he discusses those things that are most important band vulnerable for me. He is a dedicated counselor but also a sensitive and kind man.

I appreciate his insights and his ability to hear, understand, and then repeat back the things he hears so that I can narrow in on the pieces of my heart that most need attention.

I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a counselor. He's the best I have had on BetterHelp.
