Therapy is an investment of your time and effort. If you want to work with me, you must be a collaborator with me on your journey to improve your own health and well-being. As my client, you will be supported, but also challenged in order to facilitate deep insight and self-awareness into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Be aware that this process usually takes more than just a few sessions. The pace of progress is different for each client. Also, realize that therapy is not just about talking. It is also about learning positive strategies to help facilitate coping, enhance the ability to work through life’s struggles and challenges, and build resilience. When appropriate, therapy assignments will be utilized in between sessions to help reinforce learning and facilitate progress toward your stated goals. We start where you are and when you are ready, whether your needs are for preventive, maintenance, or restorative reasons.
As a therapist, I am supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. My eclectic approach typically draws upon Humanistic Psychology, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Positive Psychology where I favor being client-centered, strengths-based, and solution-focused. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California with over nine years of behavioral health experience. I have formerly worked in psychiatric and medical inpatient settings, integrated behavioral health in primary care, and in employee assistance.
I also keep myself involved in volunteer work, which right now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, means providing pro-bono mental health counseling to California's frontline healthcare workers and first responders. I also participate as an adviser on mental health public policy and related issues as a member of the 32nd District Mental Health Consortium for Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-CA-32), and previously served as a mental health policy panel expert contributor for the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). My education includes a Doctor of Social Work (DSW), Master of Social Work (MSW), and Bachelor of Arts, all from the University of Southern California. I am also an award-winning social worker who has been honored by the NASW with a Recognition Award for Outstanding Social Work Advocacy.
I am selective about the clients I take here on BetterHelp and only take a few at a given time to augment my own online therapy private practice. Keep in mind, I do not simply take clients just because the algorithm has "matched" us. If I have accepted you as a client here, then it means that I think I can be of service to you. Likewise, please be selective about the counselor/therapist you choose on BetterHelp or elsewhere. I encourage you to learn more about my therapy practice (https://DrJacquelineAshley.pro) to help you decide if I might be the right therapist for you. I am easy to find online and on social media sites Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I also encourage you to compare me to and research other counselors online (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us) as well as on BetterHelp (https://www.betterhelp.com/counselors/) to make as much of an informed decision as possible. Empower yourself! For information about choosing a therapist, take a look at "Self-Empowerment: Choosing a Mental Health Professional in California," a publication from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (https://www.bbs.ca.gov/pdf/publications/consumer_empwr_broch.pdf).
As a well-being advocate, I commend you for taking this step toward your own self-care and your willingness toward creating a more meaningful and better quality of life for yourself. I am here to support and empower you when you are ready.
AVAILABILITY: I have limited availability here on BetterHelp and only a small number of clients at any given time. For the time being, my available session days are generally on weekday evenings and weekend times (Monday-Friday from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm). These times may change at any time. My online schedule will indicate my availability for each week. Session duration is typically 45-50 minutes, but can also be requested for only 30 minutes. The typical frequency of sessions tends to be bi-weekly. Other session frequency options, based on my availability, are weekly, tri-weekly, or monthly. However, for new clients, I recommend starting with weekly sessions for the first 4 weeks before moving to bi-weekly or less. Feel free to message me anytime. I generally check messages at least twice daily and will try to respond, as appropriate and necessary, as quickly as possible within a 48 hour timeframe.
CANCELLATION & NO-SHOW POLICY: It is important to understand that when a client books an appointment that time has been set aside and dedicated to the client by the therapist. Please provide at least 24-48 hours advance notice if you have to cancel an appointment. I understand that things sometimes happen where this is not always possible; therefore, if after three times a client cancels with less than the 24 hour advance notice (LATE CANCELLATION), I may choose to terminate services and the client may have to switch to another counselor/therapist. The same applies for no-shows. THREE NO-SHOWS and/or THREE LATE CANCELLATIONS and services with me may be terminated. By the same token, if I need to cancel or reschedule with a client, it will be rare for me not to provide at least 24 hours advance notice.
ONLINE/SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY: I do have an online presence and participate on various social networks in my professional capacity. If you have an online presence, there is a possibility that we may encounter each other. If that occurs, please discuss it with me during our time in session. I believe that direct communications with clients online have the potential to compromise your confidentiality and the professional therapeutic relationship. Therefore, I do not directly communicate with, or contact, any of my clients through social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn. Because my online presence is professional, you may choose (but are not expected) to follow me. However, I will not follow you in return. If I receive any "friend"’ requests or requests to connect from any therapy clients, I will not accept. If I discover that I have accidentally established a direct online relationship with you, I will cancel that relationship. In addition, please do not try to directly contact me online or through social media. I will not respond. If you have anything from your social media life that you would like to share with me, then please bring it to our session where we can explore it together.

Trying therapy again made me hesitant on who my therapist would be, but Dr. Ashley has been so patient and understanding with my needs that I am comfortable with her and myself.
I feel that Dr. Ashley cares and listens. I feel that she genuinely wants to help me and makes the effort to get to know me so that our interactions are comfortable and personable.
Love her. Very helpful, informative, and compassionate.
Dr. Ashley is the first therapist I've ever had. Going into therapy, I wasn't sure what to expect but definitely wanted someone who was non judgmental, and who could help guide me through the fog in my mind. Working with Dr. Ashley was just what I was hoping for. She is a great listener, patient, and thorough. I always felt heard and understood, and she helped me work through issues that I have been struggling with for years. I will definitely seek her guidance when I am in need of therapy again. Because of her help I feel empowered to tackle issues as they arise, and I am equipped with tools that are helping me gain a more positive perspective on life.
Dr. Ashley is very patient and tries to understand and help. She helped me challenge my social anxiety with CBT techniques. Her message are very clear and engaging. She goes through all the things that I wanted to talk about in detail and provides a very rational approach to it. I would for sure recommend Dr. Ashley to anyone willing to challenge their thought patterns and anxiety.

Dr. Ashley is an excellent therapist and extremely knowledgeable. She is patient and addresses issues the client brings up. She provides helpful tools to manager stress, anxiety, and expression of self. She is easy to talk to and open to differ modes of communication offered by BetterHelp.
Dr. Ashley really helped me find better ways to cope with my anxiety, depression, and panic on an everyday basis. She really takes the time to educate all of her patients on the "whats" and "whys" are. I never learned those "whats" and "whys" for me until I started with Dr. Ashley, which really shifted how I would cope everyday in a much healthier way.
Dr. Ashley was very helpful and understanding. Being that it was my first time getting counseling, she took the time to explain how it works, to get to know about me, and made me feel comfortable. I would definitely recommend people to Dr. Ashley.
Dr. Ashley's professional and caring approach helped me work though a difficult situation in my marriage and get some clarity about which direction to move forward in my life. She checked in with me often and listened patiently when I needed to do all the talking. I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Ashley!
