I have a BS in sports management from the University of Illinois - Champaign Urbana. I later discovered counseling was a better fit and I went on to complete my MA in marriage and family counseling from Governors State University. I am a licensed professional counselor who utilizes solution focused therapy, emotional focused therapy, and attachment theory. I value the the therapeutic relationship as the catalyst for change and take strength based approaches to empower independence. My approach has been described as a velvet glove over an iron fist. I take a gentle approach to clinical challenges to promote change.
I have experience working in private practice treating families, couples, and ages 4 years old on up. I also have experience as a counselor in a residential adult substance abuse setting as well as EAP (employee assistance program). I previously supervised a behavioral health call center for a major global manage care/EAP organization. I encourage holistic health and may encourage you to develop a relationship with your medical provider to assure your physical health can support your optimum mental health.
I have a rat terrier/chihuahua named Little Papa, enjoy home gardening and volunteering with my community garden and as a congressional advocate with the Alzheimer's Association. I also am a post-baccalaureate biomedical sciences student at Lewis University.

Jakara has been a perfect fit for me. She listens to me and then helps me to see what I may be missing. At least one time every session I tell her how amazing she is and how she was exactly what I needed today. Thank you!
So relatable and easy to talk to. She has a way of being able to take a million words I say and simplify them to one root emotion! Thank you.
Jakara is pragmatic and engaged as a counselor. She doesn’t just let me ramble on and helps me reflect and acknowledge my experience. Together we were able to talk through some difficulties I was having at work and through my conversations with her I was able to advocate for myself and make some tangible changes that have made my life so much better. She has a bright and positive personality - I highly recommend working with her!
Jakara really listens and offers great incite, really being able to “hear” what I’m saying. In so doing, she’s able to help me get to the core of my problems.
Jakara has been exceptional in every way. She is ethical, personable, intuitive and an active listener. She took the time to get to know all the facets of me so that she could have an integral and holistic approach to my treatment rather than only addressing part of me but not the whole. She made it easy to feel comfortable enough for me to be vulnerable and honest without feeling judged or analyzed. She has helped me to not only get through a really difficult depression but also feel empowered with the tools and resources I need to continue moving forward. Thank you!
I'm impressed with Jakara thus far. Her perceptiveness is very good over the internet and I find her questions very effective in stimulating thoughts and processes.
I've been in therapy for many years before, with no results! Within a week of starting with Jakara Hubbard I have amazing results, new insights, and new ways to cope with all the struggles!
Jakara has been an open ear all the time and has navigated me through many different scenarios. Even making time on the weekends for me. I am very very lucky to have her in my life
Very helpful and very kind! I was nervous about talking to a counselor for the first time but she made it less stressful and gave me great advice. I feel like my life is actually improving little by little due to the advice and counseling she has given me. I have very grateful for her and I would recommend her to anyone.
