About Me
Welcome! Please feel free to call me Jamey (He/Him). I hope we can begin to work together soon!
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 8 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families in therapy. I completed my Master's Degree at Purdue University Northwest and then moved to New York City to begin practicing professionally. I have worked in both clinical settings and private practice when providing therapy, and this past year I have been entirely working through video sessions to meet with my clients. I now feel well equipped in converting most therapy experience into video sessions.
I have an extensive history of working with individuals who are experiencing mood disorders (depression, anxiety, etc.) as well as adjustment and phase of life changes. It is very important to understand our emotional roots and the history to our patterns, but I work to keep my therapy focused on present solutions that can create meaningful change very soon. I use a combination of modalities in order to meet what a client's needs may be, which often includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Systemic Theories and Interventions, Narrative Therapy, Transgenerational Theories, and especially Solution-Focused Therapies. I also work often as a couples therapist, where I am trained in Gottman Method and also use a lot of Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy work as well. Real relationship changes happens best in couples therapy, but I often help individuals who have relationship concerns through understanding some of the principles of these theories, and applying it individually.
I make sure that all of my contact with clients feels genuine and personable. I find it a lot easier, and frankly more fun, when you can enjoy talking with your therapist, and the mental health work can be more of a conversation than a chore. I work hard to make sure I can meet the needs of all clients, and that the therapy environment is entirely safe and nonjudgmental. I am well aware that I am another white male in this world, and I take the responsibility of understanding my biases and validating the experiences of others very seriously. My job is to meet my clients where they are and treat their perspectives as the most important voices in therapy.
I look forward to answering any additional questions you may have about me. And I hope we can together take the next step in making meaningful changes in your life.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for James Baumbusch. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
James is a fantastic therapist! The thought of talking to a stranger about very intimate subjects was pretty nerve-wracking, but James made me feel very comfortable and the sessions quickly felt like I was speaking with a friend. I can truly say that talking with James changed my life for the better, and I hope that one day I can make it up to him.
He truly has helped me in so many ways! I have better ways of handling my depression and anxiety. Even though I have flare ups, because of him, I have better ways of managing my mental health. He truly is the absolute best!
James was a great therapist and helped a lot. Great listener, and gave sound advice along with content for me to go consumer related to my problems. Enjoyed working with him!
Rockstar!
James has been awesome. He’s really helped me cope with the grief of losing my father and anxiety. Beyond that he’s been a great counsel to help me deal with every day issues. I couldn’t more highly recommend James
He's awesome. Best therapist I've ever had.
He understand what I am going through. He listen to what I have to say. He offers help in ways for me to look at things or things I can do to make my situation better.
