Hello. My name is James Neumann (Jim) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an Alaska License. I have been a practicing psychotherapist for nearly twenty years.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2001 with a Master's of Social work Degree. I also have a Bachelors Degree in History and another Bachelors in Social Work. Early in my career I worked in a urban psychiatric hospital setting. Included in this setting there was also a detox unit which enhanced my desire to learn more about addictions. I have worked at two community health centers in Alaska and also on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation for two years. I provided psychotherapy services in all those locations. I was able to work with varied populations and cultures seeing clients from five years old to eighty. The focus of my practice has been trauma related and clients with addictions issues.
I would describe my approach as client centered and goal oriented. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivation Interviewing among others. I like to focus on clients becoming goal oriented and empowered by the therapeutic process. I also focus on the client efforts to make behavioral and thought processing changes that will improve their lives.
Life is often difficult but it remains as part of the human experience. It is sometimes difficult to ask others for help because it can be a vulnerable step to take. On the other hand it can help restore trust and it initiates the healing process which leads to ongoing personal growth, insight and healthy relationships.

Jim was very good about sending me the appointment times he had available and checking in to see if I got his e-mail. The only issue holding up the first appointment was that I was not getting some of my questions answered by the Customer Service department. They have a policy that they do not speak to people on the phone so e-mailing back and forth to get simple questions (basically yes/no) answered about billing was taking days not minutes. I work 12/day and we are not allowed access to personal e-mail at work so I finally decided that this system of playing "e-mail tag" was only making my mental health situation worse. (I am actually taking time off work to type this.) I am sorry that I did not get to set up an appointment. :(
Great listener. Friendly. Cares about your interests and well being. Connects with you. Has an honest suggestions to new or uncommon situations. Help sort out your thoughts. Great communication.
Jim has helped me so much these last 2 months. He’s an amazing listener, and none judgmental. He’s caring and funny and has great life stories that he works into the therapy so you see things in a different light.
I feel at ease talking to him and even though I’m from the UK the session times worked out every well.
I have gained so much insight and self knowledge in such a short time and will continue to use his teachings in the future. Thank you Jim!
Jim is such a wonderful soul. His patience and kindness makes him very easy to talk to and open up about things. I appreciate his insight and ability to help break down topics in a normal and nonjudgemental way. I am very happy I was matched with Jim.
Jim is a wonderful therapist! I highly recommend him. He is a very attentive listener and asks questions that help bring a new insight!
Jim is a great listener. He’s compassionate but gives it to you straight. In the sessions we’ve had so far he’s helped me tremendously.
Jim is a wonderful and patient counsellor who listens and understands my issues. He helped me rationalise my problems, and understand how to work on them myself. I feel much more condfident at work and more calm at home thanks to these sessions with Jim!
Dr. Neumann is kind and supportive and I appreciate his ability to add humor where appropriate.
HE IS AWESOME.
James retraumatized me through our first session and went way too deep too fast. I have been having crazy panic attacks and feel way worse than before our session. I feel discouraged about therapy now, and doubtful I will find someone safe to talk with ever.
Very responsive to messages thank you
Jim is really great. I'm only two sessions in and he is already very helpful.
He is very insightful and helps guide you to the answers that are already inside of you
Jim is very intelligent in his field, and I personally am comfortable speaking with him. He also is able to provide background knowledge along with ways on how to fix certain issues which really helps.
One session so far and he was spot on.
Jim is kind and insightful. I really appreciate the way he approaches our sessions with gentle firmness and compassion.
Jim was a pleasure to talk to. He understands where I am coming from and provides advise based on his wide experience. His quick messages are something I look forward to reading, and they definitely helped. Will definitely recommend Jim!
I was skeptical of this platform, but wow was I wrong. I love it, and it has been exactly what I needed at the time I didn’t know what I needed. I love the journal system. I type daily journals out and they are sent directly to my counselor Jim Neumann. He responds very quickly, usually within 20 minutes. Even though he doesn’t need to, he does just to say hey I got your message and offer a few quick works of support. Jim is very easy to talk with and has many years of experience to share. I would highly recommend this platform for anyone in need of something new in the ever changing world of Covid-19. Therapy can be everything you need if you are willing to put in the personal work needed to be successful.
