James Klotzle

About Me

I am a responsive and understanding therapist, licensed to work with people living in California and Minnesota. Whether you have undergone years of psychotherapy or are just now thinking about talking to someone for the first time, I am prepared to support and guide you on this part of your journey.

I began my working life as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. This background has given me the ability to assess a situation thoroughly and help you create a clear treatment plan to focus our energy in therapy. I am results-oriented and solution-focused with a passion for healing. While I have experience with depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and many other mental health issues, my specialties are treating trauma and substance abuse.

I have extensive experience helping people with PTSD from childhood abuse, from sexual assaults, from violence, from accidents of various kinds and from medical issues. As a former first responder, I have had great success working with military, law enforcement, emergency medical and firefighting personnel. Anxiety is a hallmark of the problems caused by trauma, so I have become adept at treating anxiety disorders as well. This translates well into helping people with career struggles, performance anxiety, stress from school and relationship issues.

I have managed a 22 bed residential treatment center that handled every kind of substance use issue you can imagine. I have worked with people who are addicted to alcohol and benzodiazapines, which can create deadly withdrawal symptoms. I have helped people struggling with opioids like prescription painkillers, heroin and fentanyl. I have worked with people addicted to all forms of methamphetamines, cocaine and inhalants.

Substance use disorders affect not only the user, but their friends, family, co-workers and more. Whether you or someone you care about is struggling with substances, you will find me ready and equipped to discuss the biology, psychology and sociology of substance use disorders. Understanding the disease of addiction and the many treatment options available will help you to make informed, cost effective choices moving forward. I will offer consistent, skillful help and support through this platform as you take action for your health and wellness.

I'm so happy that I found James on this site. I have been through 3 therapists previously. I was looking for someone who had many tools and techniques to share on top of empathetic listening. I appreciate is knowledge and ability to quickly come up with solutions and perspectives.

Jim has been an amazing counselor! I highly recommend him! He comes to sessions with a warm and empathetic front and is always focused on coming out of a session with action steps that I can work on between our talks.
I truly feel that we are working together during our sessions and that there is no judgement. He doesn't "talk down to me".... he meets me right where I'm at.
I am so thankful I stepped out of my comfort zone and signed on with him. I have zero regrets! The man is amazing at what he does!

I'm new to therapy so I wasn't sure what to expect. James Klotzle has been quite helpful to me. He helps me to identify my issues and move forward in addressing them. With his help I feel like I have tools to get out of my own way and move on with my life. He is a good listener and checks in on me regularly.

Jim is understanding, thoughtful, and action-oriented. Working with him has really helped me put what I was experiencing in perspective and allowed me to start breaking free of the self-defeating thought processes that were holding me back from living a fulfilling life. I would highly recommend him as a counselor.
