About me

I am a professional counselor licensed in Arizona , Ohio and North Dakota with over 30 years of experience working with a wide range of life problems ranging from Mild to Moderate to Severe. I have experience in community mental health, substance abuse, rehabilitation and corrections, and academic and hospital settings. I have worked with clients with concerns related to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self-esteem problems, OCD and ADHD, schizophrenia, delusional disorders, bipolar disorder, phobias including agoraphobia, personality disorders including anti-social disorder and self-harming behaviors. I have also helped many people who have experienced trauma including brain injuries, physical and sexual abuse, and emotional trauma including rape and domestic abuse.

My counseling style is flexible and interactive. I believe in treating everyone in an individualized manner. I endeavor to treat the problems the individual is experiencing and not rely solely on a diagnosis. My approach mostly combines cognitive-behavioral and existential interventions. I am familiar with and trained in current popular theoretical models including DBT, ACT, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing, but I believe they are mostly rebranding of older theoretical approaches and are mostly based on cognitive behavioral therapy and meditation. I will tailor our cooperative interaction and treatment plan to meet your unique issues, life circumstances, strengths and specific needs. After 30 years I am not shocked by or judgmental about anything.

It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life, and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that first step I am here to support and empower you. I will endeavor to give you my best effort and expect the same from you. Counseling should be a WE process and not me or you.

I look forward to working with you!

Jim is a fantastic resource! It is my first experience with therapy and Jim is extremely easy to talk to and is a great listener. From my first appointment with him, I've taken things that I can use to manage my conditions. I would highly recommend Jim to anyone that is looking for some guidance and assistance.

He quickly understood exactly what I was feeling! The exercises he gave me really helped me and within TWO sessions I was able to immediately change who I was, become the person I wanted to always be. James is so kind, down to earth, actively listens and treats you like someone he’s always known. Best counseling I have ever experienced my whole life!!!

Jim is amazing. Simply put he listens to everything I have to say and understands me better then anyone else I talk to day to day. Hes showed me many methods of controlling my anger and teaching me how to appreciate myself again. Highly recommended! Thank you Jim!
