About me

I am a mental health counselor licensed in Washington State with over 7 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, anger management, and struggles with adjustment to change. I also helped many people who have experienced physical, verbal, or emotional trauma.

My counseling style is open, empathic, and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines humanistic, existential, client-centered and reality-based counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

James made me gain trust in therapy again. He is very knowledgeable and sympathetic. The various sessions I have had so far with him, have always been extremely enlightening. Anyone who get to have have him as a counselor is extremely lucky and in good hands.

James is a very responsive listener. Each week he listens to my current stuggles, but also makes sure we touch on my long term goals with my mental health.

James Norris helped me fully realize what I'm capable of. When we started, my goal was to become a better version of myself; with James' guidance I realized I have all the tools at my disposal.
James helped me get to a point where, without his help, would have taken me years to reach. A "thank you" does not hold the emotional value necessary to express what he's helped me accomplish.

James is such an insightful counselor and I loved working with him. His gentle approach made me feel super safe and comfortable sharing. He helped me with anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues, career coaching, and depression. He’s super knowledgeable and I highly recommend him to anyone! Can’t thank him enough for bringing a fresh perspective when I felt stuck.

James is a very thoughtful and intentional counselor. He is always ready to listen and help sort through my thoughts as well as give me concrete actions I can take to curb anxiety or relational issues. I find it helpful that he allows me plenty of space to work through my own thought process before offering insight, and the insights feel genuine and useful.
