My name is Jamie Matthews and I have been working as a counselor since 2007, and really enjoy helping people to make the changes that they want in their life. I believe that counseling is about change, and have always believed that people can change any behavior that they feel is not working for them in their life. I started my career working in community mental health where I worked with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, and gained a great deal of experience with those who had difficulty managing symptoms of hallucinations, delusions, severe depression symptoms, and severe anxiety symptoms. From 2007-2015 I did mainly group counseling sessions, and some individual counseling sessions using evidence based practices to assist individuals making significant changes in their life. This was a rewarding experience because I watched as people would go from isolating themselves completely to overcoming everything to live the life that they wanted. In 2015-2018 I have worked as an Outpatient Therapist where I have worked with children, adults, and families to make the changes that they have been wanting to make, and assist with dealing with new changes that their families had been experiencing.
Currently I still believe in using cognitive behavioral therapy to assist people in staying present focused and learning new ways to think about situations. I do believe that it is important to learn to live your day-to-day life before discussing past experiences that may be holding people back. I am a strong believe in being solution focused, and learning ways to focus on current issues. When working with me I will not try to push you to share past experiences, but only work on current behaviors that are not working for you in your life. I also will not try to stop you from sharing things from your past that have been bothering you because I understand the value of having someone to hear and really listen to your needs. I look forward to working with you.
I am only working part time hours, and I am only available Monday-Friday 6 pm-11 pm and Saturday-Sunday 9 am-11 pm. Please if you are wanting more availability choose a different therapist.

Jamie is great she listens to me an gives me different perspectives truly remembers her clients and is non judgmental. We just started our counseling recently I had to live because I couldn't afford it for a while she always messaged me and made sure I knew that if i needed someone to talk she was there. She doesn't just sit there and listen and not give you a response she is engaged in the conversation and seems to truly care which is an issue I have had trouble in finding the right counselor for I am grateful to have Jamie and I can't wait to begin my healing journey.

Jamie has helped me quite a bit with the stresses of being a career changer. Jamie worked with me to show me techniques to help with stress management. She also recommended some tests to complete to ensure I was where I needed to be for my career. She is a great counselor and will continue using the service in order to keep Jamie as my counselor.
