About me

Someone once allowed me to “borrow” their hope until I had enough of my own to accompany me on my journey. Well, since then, I’ve been committed to inspiring hope in others. The power o f hope can help us to overcome any obstacle we face and propel us to do all the things we were meant to do; from simply having the courage and will to get out of bed in the morning, all the way to changing the world.

You may be visiting this site because you’re hurting and need to find relief. You’ve experienced trauma and loss and can no longer pretend that you’re doing just fine. You’re having trouble functioning and could use some help getting back to “normal”. Or maybe you’re facing disappointments, rejection, and obstacles that seem insurmountable. Even if you are just about ready to give it all up and throw in the towel, my friend, you have come to the right place. You need a safe space where it’s ok to not be ok. I’m delighted that you have taken this bold first step to feeling and doing better. It shows that you are ready to stop simply existing. You want to live and thrive.

For almost 20 years, I have been working to inspire hope and change in individuals from all backgrounds, faiths, orientations, and cultures, through education, one-on-one and group counseling, personal and community advocacy. I’ve worked with those affected by trauma, loss, domestic violence, abuse, addictions, depression, anxiety, marriage and family challenges, learning and physical disabilities, anger management, major life crises, and a broad spectrum of mental illness. I am an eclectic therapist, supporting adults, children, families, and groups. I utilize person-centered (Rogerian), cognitive-behavioral (CBT) strategies to empower clients to be the change they desire to see, often in the context of being able to fulfill your purpose in life (Adlerian). According to your needs, we may use meditation, music, art, movement, drama, poetry, play therapy, and more, to aid in bringing about that change. Finally, I focus on equipping clients with psycho-educational tools and resources for a lifetime of continued growth, long after you have discontinued counseling.

Allow me to be your guide in discovering hope again. And until then, I have enough for us both.

Jamilah Bowden came into my life at the perfect time. I've had other counselors that just didn't feel as connected as Jamilah is. I like the fact that I can message her whenever and know that she will respond with just the right comments and advice. It feels like she truly cares about the success and moments of weaknesses. Her words are comforting, caring, and powerful. I am so thankful to have discovered her,

I have been working with Jamilah for a few weeks now and I absolutely love her! She is caring and very attentive. She is very knowledgeable and always gives me things to work on throughout the week. I like how she asks me questions to get my mind to rolling and it helps me to get the most out of our sessions! I am super happy I chose her, and would highly recommend her!
