Hello, my name is Jan Culpepper and for over 15 years I have been in the counseling field working toward empowering others and providing resources to assist them on their journey of healing. I am a licensed professional counselor for over 4 years in NC where I have a small private practice and work with a local agency to provide outpatient mental health therapy. I believe therapy is a collaboration between the therapist and the client; a relationship where we both bring in our strengths and knowledge to increase your mental wellbeing and quality of your life. I encourage all my clients to be proactive in the direction of their therapy to assure it meets their unique needs.
In 2001, I graduated with a BS in psychology and in 2013, I graduated with my MA in Professional Counseling from Liberty University with a certification in Trauma Studies through Liberty. Through the years I have worked as a children’s coordinator at a domestic violence shelter, Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapist, counselor at a substance abuse recovery center, mobile crisis, and an outpatient therapist.
I see therapy as an interactive experience between myself, as the therapist, and you, as the client. Over the years I have been trained in multiple techniques that strengthen my skills in treating clients with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, high functioning autism, parenting skills, couples and family issues, ADHD, oppositional defiance, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, life transitions, chronic pain, borderline personality disorder, and phobias. I specialize in trauma and have the following certifications; Clinical Certified Trauma Professional (CCTP) for adults through the International Association of Trauma Professionals, certified in SITCAP- Level 1 (Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents and Parents) as a Certified Trauma Practitioner- Clinical (CTP), and certified in Trauma Studies. I am also a certified Triple P Practitioner (positive parenting counseling). My other trainings in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Together Facing the Challenge, crisis counseling, art therapy, mindfulness, Seven Challenges (substance abuse) and TF-CBT (trauma focused therapy) will allow me to work with you on providing the best therapy to meet your goals. I look forward to working with you.

Jan Culpepper has been extremely helpful to me in my journey of healing from an abusive relationship. Her expertise and support has helped me to get set free from limiting thoughts about myself and also learning how to set healthy boundaries in my relationships . I highly recommend her!
I haven't been working with Jan for too long, but she has been very professional and has helped me understand some potential areas that have caused me challenges. I think I'm on a better path now. Thank you.
Jan is a great listener and astute with her feedback. She is able to whittle down my broad concerns and to come up with specific progressive actions I can take in the short term, which helps me prepare for the next session and build on top of the previous one. Her insight is helping me gain better perspective of my issues and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Very knowledgeable and helpful. She approaches my problems in a very professional way and offers excellent advice on how I should work through my issues.
From the beginning, Jan Culpepper listened to my concerns and allowed me to speak while also chiming in with her expertise with constructive counsel. It's hard to explain, but she is the complete package that I have always been searching for in a therapist. I have never had a good experience with therapy until meeting Jan. I'm sad that I had to discontinue my therapy due to financial reasons, because she was really helping me sort through my personal issues. No other therapist has picked up on the abuse I've experienced, but she did and gave me some exercises to cope and deal with that. She also recognized on her own areas in my life in which I needed to progress, and gave me very helpful ways to in which to do those things. She has been a godsend in my life, a very bright light in my darkness.
Jan Culpepper has been very understanding and has given me many options to correct my issues.
Thank you for your therapy and feedback! I think I've been able to personally improve very well with your help as a therapist, and I'd like others to similarly improve.
Jan has continuously reached out to me and given me different ways to communicate with her. I feel that she understands my angle and is concerned about my overall goal for seeking counseling. I look forward to more sessions with her.
