Javier Melendez-Vega, LCSW
About me
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I’m experienced in addressing issues related to spirituality, trauma, and sexual identity for clients ages 14-35. I also treat disorders that often accompany these areas such as anxiety, depression, existential distress, and parent/child relationship issues. I use the tools of curiosity, mindfulness, embodiment, and nature to help empower clients through therapy. With my combined experience of being a licensed clinical social worker and a youth and young adult minister I have at least 10 years experience of providing counseling. I am able to provide Christian counseling for those interested. I identify as bi and am able to support LGBT individuals who have experienced spiritual trauma/abuse, and/or individuals who are going through deconstructing (or rebuilding) their faith. I am bilingual Spanish-English and have worked with Central American immigrant populations, as well as with families whose children are growing up in a culture different and unfamiliar from that of their immigrant parents. My hope is that clients gain insight into how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors function to help them reframe negative patterns of judgment that may arise. Together we can work towards self-acceptance, spiritual peace, and conflict resolution within family relationships.
