I have been a counselor for 40 years, working in a variety of settings from elementary school to mental health agency, to inpatient hospitals. I have worked with young children, families, and aging adults. I strongly believe our self image is formed in childhood and we make decisions about ourselves as a result of our youngest formative experiences. Sometimes we make bad decisions based on bad experiences. With work, we can change these assumptions about ourselves. People who opt to work in therapy have taken a courageous step toward mental health. I honor that. I have done it myself and I know it's not easy.
I am accepting and encouraging. I help solve problems and will offer suggestions but I won't be upset if you don't take them! Life changes aren't easy. I just retired. I know! I was all set to travel and Covid came and changed everything! I have had to work on my own level of frustration with a lot of things.
Choosing to work with someone new means you have to tell your story over again. You have to work on building trust with someone new. You have to hope that person will accept you for who you are, and encourage you to learn the coping skills and tools to move forward to the goals you set , and push you toward them when you need it! I would be honored to work with you.

As a 19 year old college student, I think on a lot more of a mature scale than most of my peers. Being able to discuss my problems and feelings with someone older and has a lot of experience working with all ages . Jean is the first person I was matched with when I joined this cite and we had an immediate connection. She is very understanding and tries to give solutions to your problems and how to work through them.

I don't like writing reviews. And it's not often I give someone a pat on the back for a job well done. I typically believe the job you do should speak for itself.
The trouble with that here is you can't see the work she's done with other people.
So what I say here is well deserved. I am that job speaking for itself.
Finding a good therapist is like buying a mattress. It's a blind item. You don't know what your getting untill you try it.
Jean Ellison is an extremely fine and excellent therapist and will make a great mattress someday. All kidding aside now I wouldn't trade her for any other therapist. And I have tried a few.
She is a truly authentic soul and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of her clients. She has helped me cope with a great deal of hardships and find surer footing on my life's path and continues to do so. She puts in more than her share of leg work at times but is not reluctant to make you do your part. You can definitely expect homework. And to be better for it.

Jean is a counselor who does not let me get stuck in dead ends of repeating the same traumatic flashbacks over and over but keeps me focused on what is going on around me right now. It’s exactly what I have needed, and it’s different from some other therapists I have had. She seems to be paying attention to what I need and who I am specifically. I also appreciate talking to someone who understands a bit about my gender and life from another generation.

Jean has been so helpful for me, we have been meeting for about a month now, she is super flexible, very knowledgable in a lot of things, and personalizes each session according to my particular events and concerns. I highly recommend if you are struggling with past abuse, trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc. She's awesome.
